    Hey guys!
So I have some really bad DPC latency on my laptop (between 3000 and 7500ms). I used LatencyMon and it pinpointed the problem to nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver 275.33). When I disable my GTX 460m graphics card from the Device manager, the DPC instantly drops below 500ms. I have the latest BIOS and (as far as I can tell) the latest drivers for everything. I tried downgrading my graphics drivers but it didn't help. For some reason, DPC also drops to below 500 when I'm playing a Flash video, but I tried gaming with a video in the background and games still lagged (at all settings). My power setting is High performance. Can anyone help me with this?

try updating your Intel INF drivers, since the vid card drivers rely on those for proper performance. Run the installer with -overall switch.

Tried that, didn't help. I decided to format everything and do a clean install with all the drivers from this ( G73SW and G53SW: Latest drivers and everything you need for a fresh install.) thread. If I still get DPC lag after that, it has to be a hardware issue... Will update thread on the result, but keep throwing ideas at me.

i get the exact same thing, but I don't have any lag whatsoever, I'm thinking it could be something with the drivers of nvidia that cause to stay like that. It's a dead constant 6k+.

Just like you, when I start a vid, it drops to 200-500 and stays there, the second I pause, it jumps back to constant red 6k+. This does this no matter how many formats I've done, and no matter what intel/nvidia drivers I use.

Edit, here is some pics of before a vid playing and during the video is playing. Again, I never hear any audio skips, audio lag, or anything noticeably wrong, so I'm not sure why it shows such high latency. However, I feel it could just be a glitch since I've yet to run into performance probs.

There are some helper programs that nvidia runs. They really aren't necessary and you can kill their processes and see if that changes anything.

Disabling those 2 processes does nothing.

No, sorry to report that DPC returns even after clean install with formatted drive... After I install the Nvidia drivers DPC spikes up to 7000...

See if taking out your battery makes any difference. You can also try disabling ACPI. There is a thread somewhere here on NBR about it (although it is much more involved than just removing your battery).

I'm having the same problem. Is your G73SW the 3D version?

Allurgroceries, battery is almost always removed. Will try the ACPI thing. DPC lag goes away after disabling both the 460M and the Atheros AR9285 wireless. If either is enabled, lag returns. Cannot update the Atheros drivers, setup completes but even after restarting Windows still shows driver version 2.0.0.74 from June '09. Will have to search for .inf files for the wireless and use the Have disk method to install them. I'm ready to try anything at this point :/ Sarge, no, mine is the non-3D version.

There is a thread regarding DPC latency in the AW area, related to the M17x R1 version. Basicly (for the m17x r1) it was due to the video drivers not downclocking corectly. There is however another thread also in the AW section, might post it here once I find it, regarding a trace that can be done to see exactly what is causing the latency.

LE: Here's the dpc tracing thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/461247-m17x-dpc-isr-tracing-21.html#post6134761

    Hey guys,

I get the exact same DPC lag. When i turn off GTX 460M and Atheros the latency is gone. Any news on the subject? Do I need to send it back or have you guys come up with a solution?

Answers to the problem are pretty hard to find...

BTW i have the ASUS G53SW

I'm sorry to say that my DPC is still between 2100 and 3300. It's weird, I can play PES 2011 and GTA IV almost without interruptions but if I open Minecraft or Team Fortress, it's unplayable.

Yeah it's messed up... since not alot of people are experiencing this problem I'm starting to think that I need to turn this bad boy in. I've tried everything with drivers etc. so it must be a hardware problem.

Damn you G53SW for being so awesome and so lame!

Anyway, if you do find a fix... I'll be a happy camper.

BTW mine lags in GTA IV aswell...

If GTA 4 is just having bad frames, check the link in my sig. Major CPU throttling happens in that game, therefore causing a major performance hit. As for DPC problems, mine still hasn't caused any problems even though it's all red.

Will do but it's not just GTA IV. It's the same in ex. far cry 2. Slows down for a couple of seconds and then fast and then slow again etc. If it isn't because of bad DPC then i don't know what it is...

I just bought this notebook. I don't wanna settle with a notebook with this kind of DPC you know... Not with how expensive it is...

in my g73sw videos played with lag(except with wmplayer) with 275.33 nvidia drivers , but now when I installed older nvidia drivers without 3d support(I made it search automatically for drivers) It does not lag. I cant try the new beta drivers because they don´t install even with clean install(installing just stops), I guess I just have to wait for new drivers.

The 275.50 listed here have been modded to include OEM card ID's so they should install

Is that a question? Update the Atheros drivers to reduce DPC lag. If you have an erratic touchpad, you will need to have it RMA'd to have the techs remove the glue on the underside of the unit's shield.

Just found this post... One major culprit of high DPC latency is Microsoft Security Essentials AV. I had the same issue with high DPC latency when running uTorrent with MSE. I switched to ESET Smart Security and I've had no issues since.

This is actually a well publicized known issue with MSE and uTorrent, but it could also rear its head with other software especially if you have some heavy network use.

I just figured I'd add this to the discourse because it's absolutely a known issue. It may not be the cause to all of your issues, but I've steered clear of MSE because I prefer to run products that don't cause these types of issues.
