Hello! I bought a brand new G73SW yesterday. Today I was going to boot it for the first time but I came across some major problems. When I try to boot it the keyboard lights turn on for about 5 secs before they die. The only buttons that are active after those 5 secs are the boot button, three buttons in the upper left corner and also the battery icon.

The biggest problem though is the screen/LCD that remains black.

I've tried to only boot with the battery. I've tried to only boot with the cable. I've tried to boot with both, but so far nothing works. I've also tried to unplug the battery and the cable for several minutes before attempting to boot again but it doesn't work either.

I've tried to plug in an external LCD but it'll also just remain black.

TL;DR: A brand new G73SW with a screen that won't start, not even with an external LCD. I've tried basically everything described on ASUS support on these forums. Was this laptop broken when I bought it or have I overlooked something important (this is my first laptop so I'm abit clueless.)

Constructive answers are highly appreciated and sorry if you didn't understand everything that I wrote, english isn't my native language.

    -Adi

Edit: I do not have a reset button on the back of this laptop.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. Sounds like you are going to have to ask for a replacement from where you bought it, or send it in for an RMA. After trying everything you said, there really isn't much you can do. Just got a faulty laptop =\. The kb lights not staying on is normal however, they only stay on after booting into windows. So I guess you can tell that way too that your laptop isnt even going that far in the booting process.

Yeah, I was kinda suspecting that I'd have to return it, but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't overlooking anything obvious when booting it for the first time. I'll call the ASUS support when they open and if they can't help me fixx the problem I'll return it to the store tomorrow. :[

I wouldn't bother to call asus. Just take it back to the store.

You could try removing battery and AC power, and holding down the Power Button for 30 secs. Kind of a bummer that it was shipped that way.

A guy told me to try and charge the battery for the whole night as he had to do it on his new laptop. Although he didn't have the same model as I do I'll give it a shot anyway.

If that doesn't work I'll try what you wrote Chastity. Will post a reply tomorrow if any of these two methods work!

Quick update: Tried holding down the power button for 30 secs and then trying to start it first with only the cable, and then with the battery aswell but without any success.

God I hate the store that I bought this from. I've had problems with cell phones, headsets, keyboards and now this PC from the same store. The only reason why I bought this PC from them was because of their huge 25% off sale on everything. Siiiigh! :/

Adihash/// mine can be very stupid idea but can be tried,,, for sure I think you already thought it but just I want to be sure actually, did you try to use function keys ? such as Fn+F7 or something similar, as you know with function key you can do many things even included black screen but then it should be seen in external LCD so I think you should try function keys , "if you didnt" to be sure before decide.

one more thing, previously I had similar experience with my friend in our case laptop was opening " opening ok " but no screen, and actually there were nothing we formatted and tried it and it worked just one more day passed and same issue again, so it was some problem between mainboard and screen but laptop was 1 year old at least, if I were you for new brand laptop just I can say give it back to the store in order to prevent further problems which possible
