Most DEFINITELY get the SW. The Sandy Bridge processor is perceptibly faster. The laptop doesn't suffer from keyboard or touchpad issues either, I believe. Most of the issues you may run into can be resolve but why put yourself through the trouble when you can get a better machine for a few more dollars?

Also, I forgot to mention USB 3.0!

I don't know about that G73SW. Take a look at the specs. It looks questionable to me. First it says this under "Graphics":

    Graphics Chipset
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
    Video Memory Configuration
    Dedicated
    Dedicated Video Memory Size
    1GB

    Wireless Display (WiDi) Capable
    No

The 1GB dedicated video memory means that this is the gimped 128-bit GTX 460M sold in the Best Buy models which is considerably worse than the Mobility Radeon 5870 and which I DO NOT recommend. But at the bottom it says this under "More Information":

    Features:
    2 GHz Intel Core i7 2630QM processor

    1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

    Blu-ray DVD writer

    6GB DDR3

    1TB storage (2x500GB)

DirectX 11 with NVIDIA 3DTV play

Tapered chassis design inspired by the F-117 Nighthawk

The 1.5 GB VRAM here would imply that this is the ungimped 192-bit GTX 460M. Seems pretty fishy to me and I would at least inquire about which exact graphics card it is that you are getting before ordering.

Ask whether it's 1GB or 1.5GB before buying.

Nope, not the Best Buy version. The Best Buy version, which is model number G73SW-BST6, comes with the gimped 128-bit GTX 460M 1GB. This is sold on Newegg as well and you can read the comments about here. The reviews confirm that the there is indeed a G73SW with a gimped 128-bit GTX 460M being sold.

I've had my ASUS G73SW-XT1 for 10 months now.. :)

Remember him? The 2nd game I played on the SW back in May 2011 (1st was Fallout New Vegas)..

Also, I thought I did saw this flyer from Future Shop at work last week, and I think it did say 1 Gb. 460M, refurbished laptop. I think the resolution is not 1080p native.

SW owners will say SW and JH owners will say JH :D

Its up to you. If you want the 2.gen CPU and Nvidias 3d support then go for the SW.As mentioned before do not buy the gimped GPU version.

As for the GPU the 5870m itself is nice also the 460 will work with most games on max. Think the 5870m was had a bit of a edge over the 460.

About the JH noise and overheating. I have had the JH for ...forever bought it when it came out. After the bios fix notebook has had no problems at all. fans were quiet. was able to use the notebook in the bedroom when GF was sleeping. Fans only turned up for a few sec when was gaming hard. Have not heard the SW but compared to my old Asus X53 it was.

Ati cards work on at higher temps. Same is on the desktop GPUs. Compared to the 460 temps ....well you cant compare them. 70-80c on a ati is not overheating :)

You have all the right to be mad but the question was for a cheap SW or a JH not a 3800 +++++ USD notebook :D. That falcon notebook is crazy expensive.

Its a shame that ASUS RMA-s are so bad. The JH and SW are good when they work. :)

I would get the Best Buy one in the link. Both the SW and the JH in the futureshop link look pretty fishy and the specs don't match the known models. I'm fairly certain that the reburb G73JH on there is the G73JH-BST7 which is what I have in my sig. At the $750 price for the G73JH the Best Buy G74 would be a better deal considering that it's got a much faster Sandy Bridge processor, faster and larger capacity hard drive, more RAM, and a comparable graphics card in the GTX 560M 3GB, not to mention other G74 perks such as a better keyboard and USB 3.0.

Also, I'm fairly certain that all three of these models (G73SW, G73JH, G74SX) have the 1600x900 resolution screen, which will actually be of benefit in demanding games, allowing you to run your native resolution and get good performance without sacrificing image quality.

yes your correct , 1600x900 is great resolution for gamers , but if you are a movie watcher then the 1080p is the suitable one for you. native resolution you can get huge fps diffrence compared to 1080p
    I have a g73jh bst7 model and i would like the 900p screen in it,\
so what have you decided to buy?

I own my G73JH since nearly 2 years now and stress it daily by tons of compiling, highend games and other nasty tasks which make it suffering ... and hey it still works :)

A friend of mine has a G73SW with 3D screen and is also satisfied, the 120hz look a bit "smoother" than the 60hz screen of my G73JH.

If you get a G73JH cheap then go for it, else take the G73SW.
