Hi everyone. I had a weird string of glitches with my G73SW.

Tonight on startup, I received the message "Asus Custom ACPI Monitor Application Stopped Running" for the first time. I rebooted, and it didn't happen again. I rebooted again, and I got the message again. I rebooted yet another time.

As soon as Windows shut down and the computer began to reboot, the fans started going loudly, then tapering off to about 20%. Now with this machine, I NEVER hear the fans go off. In the month I've had it, using it daily, I've only heard the fans twice.

Anyway, I found it suspicious that the fans started going at the same moment it rebooted. The fans have been on ever since. I'm used to this laptop being 100% silent (except for the HDDs). Is it related to the ACPI monitor going down?

Since the fans are controlled by the BIOS, I figured I would reset the BIOS (no good) and then flash them. (version 205 before and after). While the BIOS is flashing, the fans stop. But once the BIOS is installed, the fans come back on and stay on as before.

Any suggestions on how to fix this fan issue? Also, any idea why the ACPI Monitor would suddenly fail upon startup? I haven't been messing around with drivers beforehand.

I read here that unplugging it and taking the battery out and letting it sit for a few hours would fix it. What does that do?

Good luck. I never got any ACPI errors but my fans are stuck on 100% all the time. Removing the battery and whatnot worked a couple times and now doesn't work. I've been meaning to look inside and see if any wires or plugs are loose but I haven't got around to it.

It worked fine when I got it but it crashed while playing a game and the fans have been on ever since. I've reloaded Windows, flashed the BIOS, tried different power settings, etc, and none of it works anymore. Fans are always on. Otherwise the machine is very stable and fast.

There is an update for the ATK stuff that you can find if you look in the downloads for the new G74 on the Asus support site. Theres a couple other updates in there too. I loaded it and it changed nothing. Rolled back to 202 BIOS, still no change. Tried different power settings with power4gear, no change. I have to assume its hardware, something inside is loose or broken.

Meh... I just took this whole thing apart, cleaned it all out, made sure everything was plugged in... took out the cmos battery for awhile, put some diamond paste on there while it was open... No dice. Fans still on full blast all the time.

Do you live in North America? If so, find a local ASP and let them check it out. You may need new fans or mobo.
