Hallo, actually i have my Asus G73SW-BST6 (Best Buy version with the "limited 460M GTX), im very happy with my laptop cause i only play SC2 and Team Fortress.
I dont do Overclock, first because i dont want to reduce the lifespan of my laptop and also cause where i live (Cancun) normally the temps are 30-35c almost all the year (plus a lot of humidity here, a bit bad for electronic devices). So making OC's is very notorious with the temps (also i exported my laptop from the U.S so the warranty here could be a bit difficult).
I had the idea of upgrading to the i7 2960XM the next time that i visit the U.S (right now my brother is there and he will get another SSD), my questions: Is supported by the BIOS (i know that the socket is the same so no problem with this)? Anyone had experiences before? Could i get a boost in FPS? (I bought BF3 and MW3 so they should be arriving this week) And the most important, with my current default power supply there couldn't be any problems?
The upgrade costs like 1000 dollars (in Ebay), so a bit expensive to be true. I only want that my laptops survives 1-2 years more with games. (Im based on most of the people in this forum that has the previous first gen G73 i7 with the 920XM and still have very great performance)
Thanks!

Wait till the end of your laptop warranty , and sell it for 3-400$
Then use your 1000$ upgrade to buy a 1400$ , you'll get a WAY , i mean , WAY higher boost this way. -
Yeah I agree. There's no point to spending that much on a GPU that won't perform even close to the original design. A normal 460M curbstomps the gimped model and then some. Adding a better CPU won't help you any here. I've been to the 940XM and back and can say it's definitely not worth the money, and I only spent $400 on the big bad CPU for the first gen i7s.

What has been said that it is not worth in your case is very true, you mention that you want it to prolong your gaming life by 1-2 years and it really will make minimal difference because your 128bit GPU is bottlenecking the CPU you have already upgrading it will make no difference.
You are better off upgrading to a full 192bit 460M GTX if anything but that may require some Vbios tweaking. At the end of the day sell up shop and upgrade to a newer model it has been said time and time again stay away from the BB models because they really suffer in gaming and as Asus do not allow GPU upgrading as standard is a killer for a gamer.
@imglidinhere I am suprised that you mention upgrading the to the 940XM made no difference, if unlocked and overclocked to run correctly at anything around 3.2ghz * 4 cores it will destroy your current I5. You may not have noticed it much in the games you play or the software you run but with games like Skyrim and BF3 and upcoming games that are CPU intensive or ports it is a valuable upgrade to go with your 460M.
