On the G73JH when gaming, I notice if the game runs heavy, the fan speed will increase, is this normal and safe? Or is it an issue of overheating on higher settings?

People are such worrywarts. If the fan kicks up that means the laptop is doing it's job. If you're concerned about overheating then monitor your temps.

Can you make Scramble Eggs on the keyboard?

If no, then you are OK, enjoy the ROG G73JH, it´s the best and the hottest!

Though, 91 is on the higher end, have you ever cleaned out the vents in the back?

Hmm can you run GPUz in the background of one of your games? Large temp differentials between the sensors is usually a good indicator of needing a repaste. On the stock stuff, my GPU would hit 95C with furmark, but only on memIO, it would be a good 10-15C lower on the other sensors. With ICD7, max with furmark is only 84C, and the other sensors are within 1-3C.

I was also thinking about repasting but I have no experience with it and taking the Asus apart seems troublesome from the video I watched.

So its normal for the fan speed to be louder when running high settings?

As Crappy mentioned its good to check the sensors on something like GPU-Z or HWINFO because a bad paste job can result in certain sections of the GPU running hotter than others. My unwritten rule is you do not need to consider a repaste unless your temps are hitting:

    720QM - 85oC - TJ-Max is 100oC
    5870M - 95oC - Limit is around 110oC

Its good to have a 15-20oC threshold to prolong the life of the hardware. Of course dropping the temps by conducting a repaste will make even more of a difference but unless you plan to research the entire process you could do more harm than good if you dont know what your doing.

As mentioned above go with the compressed air can and blast any dust inside to clean it out, people have seen amazing results by doing this upto 10oC in some cases.

Because I clock my 920XM up high its normal to have the fan running most of the time the G73 is the first laptop I have had that can game without the fan's running at full speed, it is unheard of in older laptops my G70S would run flat out all the time.

Would you say it is safe to have a fan blowing behind the labtop vents when gaming? Or would the heat just be push back inside?

Just chill. It's all normal, your temp is normal even when playing. What they're saying is you use air can to blow off the vent when you are not using the laptop, not a fan.

You can try to put a cooler if you want to. It help even a little, and better than nothing.

I have a room cooler (I just run the fan without adding water for the "cooling" effect) that I've kept below a mesh metal table on which i keep my laptop. My GPU idle temps came down to 43C from 48C. Ambient temp is around 32C. I think those temps are pretty good.
