I own my Kraken (As i call my G73) around two months ago. Couldn't be happier ever since, except of course for the fact that i lost my KB lights when flashing to 209 and i can't play the game I want to: Grand Theft Auto - Episodes From Liberty City
It ran for a while with random freezes and had to force restart by pressing the power key. But now is just a constant. Always happens, pretty much around the same part. Don't remember if i ran it on default drivers, but now i'm running vBios 3 posted by Ziddy and Cat 10.6. Overdrive set at 705/1100. No problems running Fumark, not even using the AA settings maxed.
If anyone can help me with this i would highly apreciate it. Im not getting a response on ASUS forums, and i have read that a lot of people have to deal with this kind of issue. Sucks big time because you normally buy a gaming ROG rig to PLAY!

Have you updated your DirectX?
-
just updated my DirectX. No changes.
Noticed an interesting thing though: turned GPU-z on with the event logger and got the results on the txt attached (GPU-Z Sensor Log.txt).
All happened during the starting, very first mission: theres a cut scene, which i skipped. Then i just need to drive to a different location with my bike. Nothing complicated, Somewhere really near. I am sure that that part is where the clocks go to 705/1100. Then another scene, which i decided to watch because i had a freeze there the last time. You can see that after a while the clocks go down to 700 again, and i can only imagine that happening during cut scenes (actually, it makes sense)
What i noticed is that the temperatures are insanely high. All the way up to 110!
I can always tell when the game is going to crash because it kinda lags and freezes for a little second (its very noticeable), then the screen goes black, and finally a shutdown. In the log you can see that after a while, the temps go down to 108, and thats the final log: it is because then i have the crash.
I'm gonna do a couple of things: try settings at lowest to see what happens. Then i will put a huge ventilator in the rear part so it gets cooler. Then ill try some combinations, watch some logs and test some stability.
I think that it is a game configuration thing. I'm guessing there's some config file where the max temp should be capped at 110 or whatever. Of course i'm not trying to find this file and unlock the cap: that would end on the VGA completely fried.
I live in a very, very hot city. Around 33-39 all the time. Whats even worst is that the humidity is now on 100% (it sucks). What do you guys recommend me to do about my temps?
Just tried to do a Log file of my idle temps and found out that the clocks are stuck at 200/500. Plugged to the AC and Powerplay in High Performance. Ati Overdrive Enabled and set at 705/1100. This is really weird. Ran a FuMark test at max resolution and using AA filters and the clocks did not change, and of course the temps were way lower: 68C at max.
When I first tried to turn the laptop after the crash, the blue lights flashed but the laptop did not turn on. After a while it did. Should that be the reason why the clocks are lowered? Maybe it restarted its configuration and forgot the Overdrive settings?
I would love some help guys. I really love my laptop but its very frustrating not being able to play the game i want on this amazing rig.Attached Files:

what are your idle temps? Here's mine as of now and ill i have been doing is surfing the net.
From Stock>10.6>Stock>Asus 10.1
I kinda max at about 100C when playing EFLC then a crash when it goes to about 105+ -
Posting my results.
Putting a ventilator in the back did not help at all. I was hoping for a huge decrement.
I think my temps are just being way too high. Help over here please!Attached Files:

Lak6666 I have to ask the obligatory question, are you running a legal copy of the game?
-
106C? That's way too high, assuming it's accurate. That'll crash it for sure- I thought thermal protection kicked in around 105C.
-
Lak666: did you put P4GH into High Performance as well? Did you update it to 1.1.37? If not, uninstall old and install the 1.1.37.
-
@JOSEA: Sadly no, i'm not running a legal copy of the game. But my research have shown me that legal-copy owners have issues as well.
@aramis109: the weird thing is that when i' running a FurMark benchmark it goes all the way up to 110-112C and never crashes. Its very stable, very hot though. Only with GTA i have this kind of issue, and that's why I think that it has to be some GTA configuration or thermal protection thing. Anyway, i'm worried about my high temps.
@Chastity: just updated man, thanks for the info about an update. Sadly did not solved the issue. Tried setting everything on low, but nothing worked. My temps are still reaching 110C, and when they get there, the game crashes. I'm going to install the GTA IV game (Non expansion) and see if there's problems with that one as well. If there isn't, well, im gonna stick to playing that one until i'm in Germany. Weather is cooler and drier there.
I'm gonna do a test as well with Air Conditioning. Will post the results here. Thanks everyone for your efforts. Really appreciate it. -

Did the AC test: the only change i'm getting is that it takes a little more time for the GPU to reach 110C on both GTA & GTA EFLC. Even on lower settings.
Any other game recommendations? Because sounds like i wont be playing this one.

Looks like its not only GTA. Just tried with an old game: Gears of War. Same results and restarting at same temps. 110 was the last register on the temps log.
Any ideas anyone? -
How's your ambient temperature? And it turns itself off at 110.

Well, i think that's the problem
Its been a very rainy week. Websites claim that its around 26-28C. Normally it would be between 35 and 39C. Believe me, its not cool at all. Barranquilla (the city i live in) is hell! Humidity is between 70% and 100% all the time. 94% right now. I don't know if that increases heat for the thermal sensors as well, or if it only affects thermal sensation on people.
Anyway, i have read some posts from people in Arizona, where its really hot as well, and what i'm having is a terrible problem with overheating.
Im thinking on opening the laptop and cleaning the vents. Buying some Artic5 and apply it. You guys recommend doing so? What about if i want to have the RMA option? Does opening the lappy, cleaning the vents and apply Thermal compound leaves me without Warranty?
