    Hello forum,

Had my G73 for like a year now... but after about 4 months of using it switched to m17x and only just realized how awesome this asus is. But unfortunately, on my current summer trip to a summer house in France, my standard basic charger... deceased. So I got the most powerful one avaliable around the place, which is still really not that great - 90W vs 150W for the standart one. And I can't turn my laptop on without removing the battery from it. So, there is an obvious lack in power... So, please, any ways to gain some more spare energy to dedicate it to graphics? As in, underclocking, disabling the Blu-Ray drive etc... Hope you guys can suggest something useful.

    Thanks :D

So you have a 90 watt adaptor? Use power4gear and powerplay and turn off high performance and downclock the CPU.

To be honest that is not really enough for gaming, you may be able to get away with underclocked CPU/GPU but the stock adaptor is 150 watt which is sufficient at stock.

My CPU alone runs at 95Watts :) lol

The other option you have is to fully charge the battery using that adaptor and then run it through the battery but you really need a 150watt standard.

Haha yeah... The thing is, I'm trying to get a proper charger now. I'm sending you an amazon link, can you tell me whether that one would be fine please? Cheers.

And also, for now, can you give me a downclocker for the cpu please?

    Thanks Dallers, much appreciated. :)

Pop into Power4gear you can simply lower the efficiency of the CPU. You can adjust this to run with lower brightness and on battery saving mode. You can also go into Advanced power settings to turn off things that use up more power and switch them manually to battery saving against performance.

If you want to properly configure how the CPU runs I would recommend Throttlestop which I may have to start buying shares in the amount of time I spend using it.

You can adjust the multiplier and/or Clock Mod/Chipset Mod to lower the CPU usage have a play and use something like HWINFO sensors to check the consumption and summary to check the clock speed.

Change powerplay to battery saving mode or you can use ATIGPUClockTool if you want to lower the clocks further.

My eyes maybe decieving me but I see no amazon link! :wideeyed:

    You got it now?

Thanks... By the way, if only your CPU runs at 95 W, how the hell on earth are you able to power your G73? And how did that thing not melt yet? Haha, I'm really impressed to be honest...

Will the performance be worse if I just charge the battery and use it as the only source to power my laptop? Yeah, I already have both Throttlestop and HWINFO installed, but I still don't get how much power does my 720q consume when loaded?

    :)

Should have made that clearer I have a 920XM and it does not run at 95watt for long and I have an Air conditioner pumping air into it when it does :) will be benchmarking tonight and have borrowed a mates Air Con which is much more powerful to see what she can achieve mwaaahhaha.

Anyway back to work. The performance is going to be better through the adaptor for sure as per the battery at 0% wear it runs at 8-cell battery pack (14.8V, 5200mAh, 75Wh) and any serious drain on the battery it is not going to last long and for the length of time it takes to charge it wont be worth it. But it depends what your doing just watching a movie the battery should be fine.

The 720QM can drain up to 60+watts if it is overclocked at 100% performance but under general usage should be between 25-45watts. It is difficult to say without attaching an ampeter to it however just try and work with what you have until you get a new adaptor.

Still no link fella are you PMing it to me? Post a hyperlink if its not working.

    Oh god...

Sorry took ages. Umm... The link seems to be all rude... So I'll just describe it here. It's 19V and flows at a current of 7.9 A. So, if I'm getting it right, it is going to pump me a healthy 150 Watts, that should be enough? And, also, I noticed something. If we know that when you try to turn the laptop on having the battery plugged in, it kinda refuses to turn itself on. So, after I've removed the battery 90 W all of a sudden became enough. And also, I made some magic and am able to play F1 2010 on high graphics (almost all maxed out, except a couple are slightly decreased). Can't wait to get the 150 W and overclock this boy to the limit...

Ahh you make me jealous. Show us some benchmarks from yesterday?

    Anyways, thanks for help!

That adaptor should be fine im 19.5 7.7 and mine runs everything perfectly but im not great with electric I just plug it in and expect magic to happen :D 90 watts should be able to produce good results in games as I mentioned earlier the battery produces 75watts so 90 will do the business, I cant comment on the battery problem but I would assume there is not enough juice to run the laptop and charge the battery.

Benchmarks are in my signature. I can probably get more but for a first run they are not bad, Vantage is still throttling down I need to spend more time on it at the weekend just waiting for the hot weather to shift. :)
