    hello again.

i've had this problem all along ...
when a SD card inserted into the slot, first it does show up the removable disk alright
but if i reinsert the card for the 2nd time the drive never shows up again, i have to reboot the laptop in order to get the access of the SD card.

a couple of days ago when i freshly installed my Win7 i wanted to be sure whether or not this problem occurs right from the beginning.
NO, it didnt. i could insert any brand of SD cards as many times i wanted. all were OK.
but after installing all my softs (3rd partys, etc) in the system, the problem reappeared!

i get the feeling it is some sort of software or registry conflict ... anyway we could fix this on going dilemma? :)

    thank you

Well, you could install your programs one by one and check which one is causing the problem. You could also try to re-install the card reader's driver.

yes, i did try uninstall/reinstall old/latest Alcor card reader driver but didnt change anything.

When you eject the card are you using the safe remove dialog in the systray (if you hover over the systray icon for external media, the one with the green check mark) or the eject option from windows explorer?
Does this also happen with USB flash drives?

    FOUND THE SOLUTION :)

    i uninstalled the Alcor driver.
    did not reboot.
let windows to install the multi card reader automatically itself.
    it worked!

i btw have another Q ... is there anyway i could enable autoplay for SD card reader?
i remember it was possible on Vista/XP, but for some reason not on Win7.
i tried Default Programs' Autoplay, nothing worked out there.

    any help?

    thanks

    yes yes and yes
    i had the same problem
and i have discussed it in the past ... and no one was able to give me the right answer so i had to figure it out myself :)
now listen to me very carefully becouse i have the answer for you :D :D :D

    the driver is the problem
use the generic driver for the card and you wont have any problems
so you just go into device manager and update the driver from there and chose generic driver and tell me if it will work

edit : i just saw that you figure it out by yourself :)
something is wrong with the driver but right now i think i dont have problem with latest card reader driver
