    Hey y'all.

My first startup of my new G73 went fine. My second startup I checked to make sure it had the right BIOS version through the handy sticky that's at the top of the forum subheading. Things were fine and I didn't mess with it.

After that, however, right after the Asus logo screen (and I can still bring up the BIOS) there's a white cursor for a couple of seconds on a blank screen.

Any advice? Sort of frustrated, as I looked at some "Grey Screen of Death" pictures and it doesn't seem to be that. Going to update the VBIOS when I get a chance anyways.

    EDIT:

It refuses to go into safe mode. The third startup involved some Best Buy application crashing and I wasn't able to Control Alt Delete out of it. I eventually used the Power Button to turn the computer off. After that's when the issue has happened.

Its just a white cursor? That sounds like DOS mode

Did you change the boot priority by accident in the BIOS?

It's a white cursor but then it seems to flicker off. I'm not actually able to input anything. If I did accidentally change boot priority what would I need to do to make it work out right? It seems like the priority is the HD and then the optical drive.

While I dont remember the function key, one of the f-keys will reset the BIOS to default settings (which key does that it will say on the right hand side), try that out

Sounds like its trying to boot but nothing happens correct? Make sure you dont have a CD in the optical drive, and that nothing is plugged in though USB ect...

Nothing in the optical or USB. Will try to reset the defaults again. Thanks for taking the time. I was mainly just curious if this was some common easily solvable newb mistake. Worse comes to worse and I can probably get an exchange.

Did you try F9 in BIOS and did that help? Also is ASUS fancy start enabled in BIOS, IF so disable it. Also it may be worth a shot reseating the hard drive and or any RAM modules that U can access easily (Do not forget to be properly grounded B4 touching anything inside the computer)
    Hope this help, Joe
Once you get in windows , I would remove any Best Buy apps immediately.
Also on the boot page in bios: this is how my A1 looks
    UEFI - disabled
    PXE rom disabled
    Boot Option ..
1 PO intel SSD (primary hard drive)
(I have disabled all other Boot options, personal preference so I can leave DVD's in)
Your shound have at least 1 other boot option for the optical drive
All this failing .. Try to boot from a WIN 7 DVD..

Worked through those (except the reseating) and diagnostics on a Flash drive from my sister pointed to a bad hard drive. I exchanged. The new one seems perfectly healthy so far. Thanks for the help, all.
