G73jh Best Buy version or G73jh-A2

I am having a hard time deciding what to do I know I would prefer the A2 but the best buy version is about $300 less. Am I just being to concerned or are the additional options on the A2 just worth it?

 

At its core it's still a G73 regardless of which version. It's up to you if the extra $300 is worth it. I'm perfectly content with my BB version, but if those features on the A2 are something you need, go for it.

At least you're not buying a Mac.

Can someone tell me if the Best Buy version comes with the 1 Year accidental warranty?

I'm trying to decide between the Best Buy version and the 1500 buck version, and this difference in warranty is bothering me. I also don't really understand how much a difference the lower screen resolution is. There's just something inherently wrong with getting a laptop at best buy, my inner nerd is telling me.

 

I had the BB version but I ultimately wanted Bluetooth and the 1080p display. Other than those two items the BB version is a wonderful machine.

MicroCenter has the G73JH-X5 version for $1599. It's an A1 config but with only 1 640G HDD.

 

There aren't any 7200rpm 640GB 2.5" HDs (other than the announced in April Samsung MP4 that I can't find for sale anywhere - not that I like Samsung HDs - I don't). Perhaps it's the same as the Tiger Direct model that had 2x320GB 7200rpm drives.

Listed it may be but until someone gets one, opens it up and confirms the model # I will look upon the spec with skepticism.

Screen res is important if you want to watch HD movies on your lap, I prefer to watch movies on my big screen TV's. I have the BB model, love it, res is great for what I need it for. Some need the res for their personal preferences, be it work, hobby, travel ( watch movies or vid work) but if you only need the high res and blueray for movies, maybe better to watch on TV, and save that money and instead buy the warranty (I didn't... I can fix most problems if they occur after warrenty period) or get a SSD and enjoy the pure speed and performance of the machine. If I want to see HD BlueRay I do it on a much bigger screen than my lappy. That being said, if I travel a lot, I might have a different priority for my laptop. Just saying.

 

Actually I just bought one of these and it has 2x 320gb HDs.

Also, it's being returned for Grey screen crashes when attempting to run FF14 benchmark.

It also has an Atheros WiFi card, not an Intel one.

I'm done with ATI.

 

What's the manufacture date? If it's before May, return it for a May/June unit. QC on the GPU apparently improved.

 

Dunno, returned today without a hassle. They didn't even open the box.

 

Did you try the slight overclock with 10.6 ATI drivers?

Blegh, the BB version lacks too much for the price difference with the X1 in my opinion(I own an X1). The BB not only lacks Bluetooth/1080p, but the screen is often much lower quality, and the computer does not have the special ASUS warranty. It's worth the extra bucks for an X1. Look for one around 1450. Also with the X1, you have an open drive bay waiting for an SSD . I actually put a lot of thought into getting the BB one, but in the end the warranty is what got me to buy from newegg for the X1

 

Too bad you won't have a bracket for that SSD and need to order it.

 

The weaker warranty killed the BB option for me. Adding a BB warranty (which I've heard complaints about) got the price up to (or higher) than the A2, so it was pretty easy.

 

The a2 is better value for what you get. Unless budget is a big priority get the a2.
