If the BIOS is released by Asus, why are there so many compatibility issues? I just ordered a G73, and I really don't want to have issues updating drivers, BIOS etc. What is with this? Excuse my ignorance, somewhat of a newb on this stuff.

*** Just reviewed Guide below...looks like I was pretty close just playing around. To be safe, clean installed ATK, Audio from Driver Disk then lastly 10.6 Video drivers from ATI *** -

I just updated to 209.
I had no reason too since I had no problems with the old bios, but figured I would do it anyways.
Flashed with EZFlash from in the bios using my USB Flash Drive as the bios file container.
Flashed fine and I do not see any i'll effects from the flash so far. -
What Fast Boot does is delays (hence the delay on/off switch for each startup program) the startup of your boot startup programs. The reasoning is that some programs don't need to be starting up the second Windows boots, and can be safely delayed till a little later. On XP I used a program called Startup Delayer which was freeware, and did the same thing. It was necessary because when so many startup programs all try to startup at once, sometimes their icons got lost, or perhaps didn't startup correctly.
CCleaner has a startup manager, which allows you to disable startup programs, but not delay them.
I use Fast Boot for the reason that it may help Windows boot smoother and more efficiently, without everything all crowding to startup at once when Windows boots. -
My theory is that the BIOS does some sort of toggle with the Keyboard lights, either inadvertently or just wrongly. So PERHAPS it is related to the state of the keyboard lights when the BIOS flash is done. That is probably a very random situation, with some people having them off, and some having them on. It would account for the randomness of the problem. But that is just my theory. I think my keyboard lights were off when I did my Winflash upgrade to 209 with no problems. But I just can't swear to it. -
That theory has already been posited and rejected. For example, mine were set to on with the flash, but I was flashing from a command prompt, not windows.

I have a PCI Simple Communications Controler showing up in my device manager...did I miss installing some software?
-
That shows up when you don't install the Intel Managment Engine. Just disable the device.

Twin Turbo is a waste. Looks Like stock is the way to go.
3DMark06:
12623 Stock No Turbo No Overdrive 700/1000
11997 Twin Turbo On
11813 D3DOverrider On
Tried some GPU OC but some gsod. Not worth it. -
I bricked my newly arrived G73 Bestbuy version after flashing it to v209. I came loaded with v206!!!! BestBuy Reps were so STUPID they wouldn't know the bios version when I asked for it!!!!Pathetic!Oh well wish me luck guys as I am here in the Philippines. I dunno how this thing is gonna be dealt with by Asus Customer support.
