I had the same problem with a fresh install of Windows 7. I was able to get the Creative package off of the install ISO to work, but it's crap when compared to the X-fi package.

I'm currently using the X-Fi software with the latest Realtek drivers and latest Realtek HDMI driver. FYI, one has nothing to do with the other. The Realtek HDMI driver handles the ATI HDMI driver/device which is used for only HDMI audio output, whereas the other Realtek driver package handles the drivers for everything else.

I'm running the 2.60 driver version for the main Audio drivers, 2.55 for HDMI, and the Creative X-Fi package from that linked post. All is working great and sounds perfect.

I also decided to open up my laptop again and use a couple of pieces of adhesive foam to keep my touchpad from contacting anything in the chassis of the laptop (also removed the tape from the edges of the touchpad, and I think I finally have a fully working pad.

These JH models sure take a lot of work to get everything running properly, but I'm loving the performance and think I prefer the Radeon HD 5870M over the Nvidia 460. I have a later BST7 model with an updated Radeon HD card and running Furmark in Extreme Burn mode I never go above 75C.

That may be new... I know I installed an earlier package (pre 2.50), and it didn't install the HDMI driver. I had to install the HDMI driver package seperately to get the HDMI device to install.

If it's included now, that's great, but I personally did my HDMI driver install followed by the audio driver install to get everything to work for me.

What exactly do the modded Realtek drivers that I'm using do? I assumed they were required for Creative, but if they're not, I'd probably rather use the standard drivers from Realtek. And thanks for clearing that up about the HDMI audio. I probably don't need that driver, as I don't export anything from my laptop through HDMI.

Are the modded drivers required for Creative to function?

No, the modded drivers are not required, and in fact, I never used them. I installed the X-fi software along with the latest (at the time) Realtek drivers. Just install the latest realtek along with the X-fi software provided in that package. All works just fine.

That way, you are running the latest Realtek, but you get all the bells and whistles of the X-fi software.

I think I'll just stick with the modded drivers. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Curious, when you installed this Creative X-Fi package and run the updater, does it successfully install the Creative Sound Blasetr X-Fi MB 1.00.10 package?

I went through this process to get the newer X-Fi software installed which works fine, but for some reason it fails on the install of the 1.00.10 software package from the updates.

This might be because of some remnants of the other Creative software stuff, but I tried a driver sweeper and cleaned up registry keys and for some reason that update fails to install.

Just curious if after running the Creative software update it shows no available updates when running it again. Mine continues to show the above mentioned update as applicable.

    I'm not really sure. :/

I just followed the guide I linked to before, and everything installed correctly.
