... anyone experience this? The button on my G73jh's dvd drive no longer opens the drive! I've had the laptop since September 2010 and it's worked fine until now.

Various apps are able to eject the drive tray, and manually ejecting it with the pin hole works.

The only thing I can think of that I've done (if this is a software issue) is instal VM ware player... and I've enabled and disabled the dvd drive in that environment just in case.

I'd hate to RMA this, but will if I have to. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Make sure you're pushing the button hard enough?

I think they will mail you a new drive and let you swap it and mail back the old drive. My DVD needs replacing also, but I haven't gotten aroun to it. Dell is really good with sending out parts, hopefully Asus is too!

Definitely pushing the button hard enough.

I'll look to see what it takes to get them to send a drive my way. ValkerieFire, I'll update the experience here once I get the ball rolling.

Update: I spoke with three different ASUS customer service people hoping that someone might say yes to doing a drive swap via mail. No luck... they stick to the script pretty well. Each service rep said I'd have to RMA it to fix the problem.

I bought my G73jh from Best Buy... took it there and their response was the same... they'd RMA it to solve the problem.

Grrrrrr. Wish I didn't have to be without my laptop for so long.

If you don't want to send it out, get a replacement unit and swap it yourself. The drive itself is easy to take out on the G73. Watch the BTOTech Disassembly video when they discuss the optical drive. Heck, why not upgrade it to an actual BR Burner.

True Chastity... a BR burner would be nice. Just watched the BTOTech vid... super easy. Thanks for that.
