I think your going to have to turn off digital signature requirement to get it to install? Asus won't update any of the older software for Win 8 Any one can correct me if I got this wrong the Digital signature something like that if software hasn't been approved/or verified win 8 won't let you load it.

Same problem here. I tried 4 times and the install freezes at different moments each time.

Hi errybody. I had the same freezing issues related here. After my third attempt, I decided to take the nuclear option and refresh my Win8 install. Immediately after, I ran Update until everything was current, and then ran the 8.1 installer. Got it going. Still testing drivers though, so tread lightly.

i tried the W8 "refresh" but this option needs a W8 DVD instalation disc so i put my but it was damaged( i bought last year the online W7 to 8 update so i burned it to a Kodak DVD)..so i downloaded the W8 from microsoft once agian and i installed W8 with the "keep only personal files" option..then the W8.1 option was unavailable so i installed the 64 updates..then in Windows store the win8.1 update appeared..in optional W8 update section i had only 3 drivers to update Bluetooth,LAN and WiFi(drivers) i didn't do these...then i downloaded the 8.1 update..FULL OF HOPE..but with the same result..stuck/freeze...

I'm going to try the refresh route as well, but as a warning one of the optional Qualcomm drivers will cause random freezes.

So I did the refresh to Windows 8, installed the updates, then did the Windows 8.1 update. I got as far as "Applying PC settings 54%" after the second reboot when it froze.

I ran the "Refresh" option. Once I was back to stock Windows 8, I ran Windows update three times (until "important updates" were exhausted) and then ran the Windows 8.1 update. Unrelated item of note: the freezing happened again after my update. After restart, my laptop would repeatedly freeze mid-boot. I feared I had fried my mobo and was preparing for a long rebuild day, but it turned out that my second HD (mostly game storage) was on its way out. Once I removed that, everything was gravy.

ok Guys..after many attempts to update win8 to 8.1 i gave up..so i downloaded the windows8.1 instalation ISO and i ran a clean install from my usb drive with a SUCCESS! no problems at all..you can get the ISO file from the forum above(Asus Laptops Clean Install Guidea) i downloaded my ISO straight from microsoft(there is a trick to downlad W8.1 instead of windows8) but i think with the FORUM ISO the result will be the same..now i will instal the drivers..

Just upgraded to Win 8.1 over the weekend, went the clean install route. G73JH-BST7, corsair dominator 16GB kit, Clevo 7970M, Vertex 3-120GB primary, WD 1TB secondary. No issues with the clean install. Was gaming on it all weekend, very stable.
