I haven't had any problem with the laptop so I was just wondering should I just update these anyways or should I just leave if everythings working fine? How would I know if my GPU is throttling?

I would strongly suggest you read around a bit more, and do not update anything unless you have a specific reason to.

    vBios yes!

If you want to update your ATI drivers without getting GSOD it is mandatory!

I haven't had a gsod since my graphics card was replaced. Just curious if I'd get a little more hardware head room on my GPU and CPU if I updated the bioses,

The optimization that comes with latest ATI GPU drivers will let you run games with more FPS. Other than that there is no reason to update your vBIOS. As for BIOS, if you think the laptop is running too hot, you can try updating to 211 (its the same as 209 but with fans spinning faster at lower temps). If you don't have any problems, don't update the BIOS.

i would update the vBIOS. Its pretty simple to do. However like ALLurGroceries said , read up before doing anything or you'll have a major disaster.

If it is not broke then dont fix it flashing can be a very good idea and a very bad one. You have to know what your doing and have a good drive to flash with or you could end up with a paper weight that needs to go back to Asus.

The Vbios was the only flash that really was needed tbh and luckily mine was done before I bought it, not only does it fix the GSOD it also fixes the temp issues and allows for the latest CCC drivers to work properly.

If your not confident pay for it to be done for you.

I have not updated my vBIOS, and I'm still able to stably run the latest ATI drivers at stock and overclocked speeds. Try updating your video drivers, if you GSOD, then you might want to try the vBIOS fix. If not, then consider yourself one of the lucky ones with a good video board.

I did, however, flash my BIOS to v213 for the keyboard/touchpad fix and so far it seems to have resolved the issue.

Yeah same here, I am still on stock vbios but I can run the new ati drivers with no problem. If its not broke don't fix it.

I think there are tonnes of opinions on this, in the other threads. And there are tonnes of people who are no longer active who won't be able to contribute to your current thread.

That's a strange assumption. If you mean a success/failure bias, that doesn't apply to an online forum that is hardware independent. You'll probably actually hear a lot MORE from people who failed the update, because they'll come in looking for ways to "fix" the bad flash, and people who flash properly may never say so.

So. Thanks for coming out, I guess.

Not really, some of us have a stock vbios that never GSODs, and ive had every catalyst update.

    Some of us got lucky.

The only reason id comsider upgrading is so i can set my clocks really low for idle.

I got a BSOD just by rating my laptop on the built in rate your performance thingy. that made me do a bios flash. which failed ( used desktop to store bios file). now RMA'd, and will hopefully come back after a week or two. a month at max. T_T

good drive... you mean a usb pen drive? :p are there brands that tend to fail during a bios flash? :p

Asus made a statement (well, Gary and Chastity) about even solid cards eventually needing the bios, IIRC.

Hello again to all of you, it's been awhile since I have visited these forums.

I did a lot of playing around with my G73 back some months ago and contributed to a few threads concerning the overclocking/temps/re-pasting and bios/vbios problems that were occurring to some at that time.

I am wondering, what are the newest versions of the bios and vbios for the G73JH and how are they running?

The vBIOS above is the most current, but most people here use Chastity's.
The latest BIOS is 213, whether it does anything different than 211 is a matter of opinion.

    Instructions on updating here.... http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/539984-what-do-your-new-g73jh.html

Just be very, very careful in doing so! :D you wouldn't want to pay for 459$ just to replace a mobo flashed the wrong way. :( but if it's still on warranty, knock yourself out! lol

I did 7 BIOS/vBIOS updates for keyboard lag issues and to add Overdrive to 7 G73JH's at PAX East, all with no issue. :)

I believe chastity's vbios has lower battery clocks and the overdrive option is enabled.

    Yes that is the fact!

I've done vBIOS flash about 5 times with no problem but haven't tried BIOS yet. BIOS is probably more risky. Do the vBIOS first than BIOS.

    Completed bios update to 211.

    D/L'd Chastity OD vbios.

    Confused about files....

    1. updatedod.bat(check)
    2. BR388352.001 (check)
    3. Atiflash (check)

what about "fix_od.rom"? Does this go on the thumb drive too?

    Thanks for all the support.

if you looked at updateod.bat's contents, you would see it uses fix_od.rom, and not BR388352.001 :) There's also a fix_od2.rom with updated settings on my Download page.

So I just updated my bios from 209 to 213 and it said it was a successful flash shutdown in 2 seconds. It then shutdown and I waited about 15 seconds or so to power it up again. It powers up but the screen won't turn on, all the power lights come on and the fans but the computer won't do anything. What should I do?

Start by unplugging it removing the battery and letting it sit for 10 minutes. This should reset the embedded controller, try again then.

@Mustache91 try removing the hard drives if taking the battery out and removing AC power for 30+ seconds doesn't work. Someone just reported in another thread that it worked for them. It may or may not work for you. Good luck. :)

So I just got my computer back from geek squad to fix my BIOS problem and everything but my wireless seems to work. My download speeds before were around 1mb/s and now its a solid 10kb/s and I don't know what to do. I updated the drivers for the wireless but it didn't help. Any advice would be nice.

Again probably Asus being muppets whip the back panel off.

Black should be bottom. White should be top. Just make sure the connections are firmly on if not. If its software related...I cant help sorry :)
