hi there, today when i went to play starcaft2, mid game i started getting horizontal lines and then after a white screen, i restarted the computer and the lines were there the whole time until i hit the windows 7 screen.
For the past month ive had my g73jh nothing has ever happened llike this,
I am running chastity's od2, should i try flashing the stock vbios?, anybody have a link? what should i go? i hooked up to an external monitor and everything works fine.

If you're getting normal operation on an external monitor while having issues with the notebook's display, this could point to an issue with the internal display in your G73. You might want to check to see if the display cable wasn't knocked loose from the LCD somehow; that might cause those symptoms. My assumption is that if it had something to do with a wonky VBIOS or a failing GPU you would be seeing these issues on an external monitor as well.

yeah, i checked around an the lcd cable is in popping out of the battery compartment. ill dissamble it.
if it ahs psod, or something,i ve already repasted, whill i still get warranty? -
I'm not totally sure on the warranty status as I never used it with my machine. I think the only thing you would have done to void the warranty is to repaste the CPU; IIRC there's a 'warranty void if broken' sticker that'll be a telltale sign it was messed around with. If you only repasted the GPU you probably won't have any issues as far as warranty goes; I think if you left the CPU alone they won't even bat an eye.
This won't likely help but I sent one of my ThinkPads in for warranty repair with a repasted CPU and GPU and there were no issues. However, there wasn't any 'warranty void if broken' stickers or the like inside that system; the only way to tell I had repasted would be if someone actually pulled the heat sink off the CPU. -

Hello hnijhar,
I have a very similar problem, everything was fine and then suddenly half the screen is white and the rest looks like a Tie-die shirt... an external monitor works fine, I ran game benchmarks and the GPU temps are quite low while gaming (in 70's). The scores are totally normal. So it's the LCD or the cable.
I have the videos on disassembling the G73 and even a section of the manual that some posted. But before I take the thing appart, could you tell me what you disassembled so I do the minimum necessary?
Thanks! -
yeah sure, if you have a hard time fixing it or dissambling it, i can video chat you to help you out. what i did was: this should work for you too: take out all the screws from the bottom and take out the hdds, u can keep the ram in. take off the keboard and take out all the screws, and gently lever the speaker cable from both sides, to pop it off. not from the very bottom because u WILL break it if u do. take off the plastic where the keyboard is liek the thing that the mousepad is connected to.. then pop off then cap right above the vents,
take off the lcd, and then..... disconnect all the lcd cables and reconnect them. make sure they are no being bitten by ANYTHING: that is what mine were doing, make them free, so nothing hits them, then reassemble and it should work -
Can someone sticky this thread to help anyone who thinks they might have psod
-
ah OK... thanks. Looks like disassembling most of it. I was hoping there was a "shortcut" but I guess I have to bite the bullet. I hate the idea of shipping it to Asus for who knows how long just to reconnect a cable.
Thank you for the offer, that's pretty cool of you. I found a ton of videos on youtube. I'll be fine. -

Well, after exploring many avenues I'll go back to doing it myself.
@hnijhar: just to confirm, you didn't actually replace any cables or screen, just unplug, replug and check nothing is biting the cables.. that's it?
When you say, take off the LCD, you mean disassembling the screen part? undoing the hinges so it can be separated from the body once all the cables are unplugged?
