This is really making me sad, I worked hard and invested into this,

I recently bought a G73jh rx refurb from btotech.com. The first few months it has been working great, as btotech had updated everything already. Although just recently my g73jh keeps shutting off like I pulled the plug!

It's not the power adaptor or cables/powerpoints, it shuts off on battery too.
Neither the hard drive, pulled that out and it still shuts off.
Not an overheating issue, when I first start it up and look at the temps, there idle around the 40's!

The shutoff timing is completely random, but repetitive happening every time. Sometimes I just press the power button, the lights go on and it shuts off. Other times I can get into the desktop but then have it shut off 3min later. If I turn on the laptop, its bound to shutoff.

Would it be possible something has fried or become faulty? Perhaps power supply or something?

How often does it happen? There are an almost infinite number of board-level problems that will cause a machine to turn off. It'd be good to rule out software though - have you tried a linux livecd like Ubuntu to see if it keeps shutting down even if you're not using windows?

Happens every time I press the power button, even while it starts up it shuts down sometimes. And it couldn't be software, I even removed the hard drive and while it was trying to start up it even shut down :(

    There are only two possibilities:

    - The system is overheat so the system shuts off to protects the hardware.

    - If it shuts off few seconds after you turn on the PC it could be defective AC Adapter as I've seen it many times.

-Even sometimes when I turn it on for the first time during the day it does the same thing, and its about 18 degrees in my house. if im lucky enough to get into desktop, i can see my cpu temps are around 40c

-Also it still happens with the AC adapter unplugged and battery only.

so would that cross out those possibilities? I really need to get it working, to transfer my work files onto a usb at least :(

Do the g73jh have alot of power supply faults?

If it happens on battery it's not a bad AC adapter.

Have you tried it without the battery in?

Have you tried resetting to user defaults in the BIOS?

Also try removing the battery and ac power and let it sit for 30 seconds to a minute, this will reset the embedded controller (EC) that controls power states and other low level stuff.

If it still happens after this, you'll have to move on to other areas of hardware troubleshooting.

Since you are most likely out of warranty, you may want to read the G73 disassembly guide a few times to get comfortable. The repasting guides also have good pics and warnings for disassembly. BTO has a complete teardown video on youtube as well.

    - check if there is a relevant critical failure entry in the event viewer
    - check the latest bios is installed (213)
    - make a complete clean re-install of your O.S
    Good luck!

I've uploaded a video, I've tried it without battery in, I can't even make it into bios.
Also tried letting it sit for 30 seconds to a minute to no avail. If it were a kill switch problem wouldn't also not even light up?

have you check the inside for dust? could be overheating from that.

Leave the battery in and let it charge overnight, then when you can get it to come fully on for a few minutes, check the battery level. If it isn't charging, it will show those same symptoms, as Gentech said. Which would be very possibly the power adapter. A dead battery and bad adapter will do the same thing your showing. And of course the bad adapter will not charge the battery. Which is why it will do it on battery too. Check it out and let us know.

I've done the above as you have said. The battery charge light does come on. Previously the percentage of battery charge was full.

Now it pretty much only does what is in the video i have posted. Should I find someone to repair it?
