    Hello,

I bought my laptop back in august and bought SC2 not long after that. This lap top use to totally destroy that game. Could play a 4v4 MP match with everything ultra and not notice a hit until a very large battle.

Well, that has changed. I now can play in a 1v1 game and my fps will be 25 at the beginning of the game. I also get messages telling me that my rig is slowing the game down.....

I have no idea what happened my LT to cause it to run so poorly.

Except for the audio driver, the PC is still running the same drivers that it was running when I bought it. In case you are wondering, this happened beofre i upgraded the audio driver.

I checked the power 4 gear hbrind and it set to max perfomance, everthing is at 100%..

I don't know where else to look for issues.

    Any suggstions?

    thanks!

    Id say either:

Your GPU is overheating and throttling down; what are your temps?

In ATI Powerplay its set to max powersavings, make sure its set to max performance

    thanks for the reply,

I don't know how to check the temp of the GPU.....

When I play games, I use a cooling pad under the laptop though.

ATI is set to max performance.

Have you changed the settings to ultra by any chance?

Download GPUZ, install it and go into the Sensor Tab, enable both of the bottom options (monitor in the background and create a log), and go play, if you can post the log or check for the max temps.

DAMN!....your highest was 89c....not sure why it is getting that high for?....maybe others can shed some light.....might be repaste time or a faulty card.....I hope it's neither though... :).....I own the BST7 G73 from BEST BUY and my GPU temps never go above 72c... :)....I am a lucky one I guess...and that is with gaming in crysis for 3 hours straight on high settings.I hope you get this sorted out my friend

Remember Bestbuy is runing at 1600x900, so much less load into the gpu, so its not that fair to compare it directly even though all hardware is identical. But a repaste/cleaning might help lower it some, but i wouldn't worry too much, inside 90C the gpu should be fine.

The log seems fine, highest temp was 89C which is high, but nothing out of ordinary for Asus G series laptops, mine doesnt go over 78C under SC2, but different gpus, no downclocking, i see nothing wrong. Try to continue monitoring it, would be great to see a log when you do have the low fps drops.

I do have a bug that i sometimes caped at 30fps, but in game like really playing, i havent seen it. I believe at the begining there was issues with fps under the loading screen not bieng caped an overheating gpus, but i think blizzard patch it to have 30/60fps on none gaming screens (dont take my word for it), but might be sometimes it doesnt release the cap when it goes from menu screen to playing the game.

One thing I never got was how could a 1920x1080 screen compared to a 1600x900 screen push the card really hard?.....I mean we are only talking an extra of 320x180 more pixels... :)...and also in his post he didn't say what res screen he has so let him respond and tell us......and for me 89c is high....I have seen others get those temps even on a 1600x900 screen... :).....so there must be something else wrong here

    A 1600x900 screen has 1,440,000 pixels
    A 1920x1080 screen has 2,073,600 pixels

The difference is 633,600 pixels, which is around 44% more than 1600x900.

More like under 100 is okay.

And if you multiply 1920 by 1080, and compare it to 1600 multiplied by 900, you'll see why there is a difference.

wow so if i upgrade my g73's stock screen from 1600x900 to 1920x1080 1080p, im going to get an increase in graphics but decrease in performance under the current settings im using?

for example: with a 1600x900 im playing SC2 on ultra with a constant 55-60FPS. With a 1920x900 on ultra, ill get lower FPS but better gfx?

Agreed with most everyone else here, temps seem fine...hmmm perhaps a CPU problem then as opposed to a GPU one? (even though ive never heard of a g73 cpu overheating)

Download hwinfo32 and use it to log everything and play some more, post it here if you can.

Also are these frame drops in multiplayer AND single player or just one or the other? I know frames have dropped for me due to others in the game with a bad connection (or my own connection suddenly dropping then rising again).

I am playing at 1600x900 everthing at ultra.

Attached is the log file for hwinfo32.

I played again and this time th fps hung around 50+.....

Maybe it is conectionor something. Just the problem persisted for about 3 or 4 days it seemed.

Maybe Ihad something set wrong? I know I had the LT at work hooked to a projector for a presentation.

Just to check I hit fn f8 to see maybe if something was stuck? I dont know if it helped or not but I am trying to think of something that could have caused this machine to just bog down like that.

Thanks for all the help so far.
