    Hey guys,

I've had my Asus G73jh for about a year now and LOVE IT....(well...started loving it after I got it replaced because of AMD's HORRIBLE card).

It's starting to get a little slower and I was wondering what are the best ideas for upgrades on the machine? I have two 500 gb hard drives in it and 6gbs of DDR3 ram. What else should I do?

An SSD is the best upgrade really, it's not like you can upgrade the graphics card, and more than 6GB of RAM will be useful only in special cases.

You might want to defragment your hard drive, remove any bloatware you have and clean up your startup items list. Other than that, Allurgroceries gave the upgrade most likely to speed up your system.

Slower? My lappy is about 1 year too and it's feel muscle as day one. Of course I have a SSD installed in my unit from day two.

Yeah, do the ssd upgrade, you will notice the diferrence.

I had a very similar issue as far as the system becoming very slow after about a year of use so I decided to look around the interwebz to find a potential solution.

The one that worked the best for me was actually taking my system apart and getting all the dust build up out of the inside. While the innovative cooling system that accompanies the G73JH is great for what its meant to do it absolutely SUCKS for cleaining out build up dust.

One solution suggested using a compressed can of air to blow through the vents in the back of the system but I can't recommend that method due to the damage you might cause to the fans behind them.

If you are brave like me, I had ZERO experience messing around inside a laptop prior, you can read some online guides and watch some videos of how to take apart the system which will allow you blow out all the dust from inside of the system.

My system was back to day 1 speed after I did this and I learned also managed to learn how to take apart and put back together my computer, a real "two birds with one stone" fix.

I agree with the above posters. An SSD and cleaning out the vents are definitely two great starting points. Check out some Intel and OCZ SSD drives.

Also, since you have a first gen i7 processor, you'll probably want to stick with SATA II drives as your computer doesn't support SATA III. Just thought I'd include that so you don't end up wasting money. :)
