Watched the video also noted that when cpu fan jumped up at the same time you had a cpu spike it started at 1300mhz dropped to 973mhz jumped to 1370mhz and then fan went to 2000 rpm then after a cool cycle it dropped back to 100 rpm then you had a cpu spike to 2300mhz and 2600mhz and fan responed to it with a increase to 2000 rpm to cool. question for me is what is running in background that is spiking cpu usage or are you turning on turbo at these times?

programs in background (messeger , skype maybe mozilla ) nothing special
i have minimum procesor state at 0% and maximum at 100% becouse i don't want to torture the processor when surfing...at 100%
about the jumping of the processor that was becouse i believe i was chatting on Windows Live Messenger that's why (i tested it right now and the CPU stays on 931 MHZ)
this is only happening when CPU temperature is bellow 45 C
when it reaches 45 C it goes for the 2000 RPM
if i keep the CPU temperature more then 45 C it does not go to 100 RPM

    TWIN TURBO MODE - OFF
and also i don't know if you noticed that
the RIGHT vent on the back of the laptop is taking out hot air all the time
but the LEFT vent is making those CYCLES turning on and off 100/2000

Its happening because your CPU is hovering around the min temp at which the EC activates the cpu fan..
100rpm(as read bt HWinfo) is actually 0rpm(as read by everest) i.e. the fan is in off state
and 2000rpm is the min speed for the fan..

so i guess find some way to keep the cpu slightly cooler/warmer to prevent the cpu fan from cycling

exactly ... it is turning OFF and ON and i can hear the sound making it
but i don't know why is this happening are other people experiencing the same problem
if they are probably that's how it is designed

can you report how is your CPU temperature going on and how many CPU RPM are you getting with that temperature

    Problem - FOUND
    Solution - WARM Environment ???

as kurtcocaine pointed out, the fan will only work when the cpu hits the minimum temperature.
the reason why it turns on and off is because of your cpu is reaching the minimum temperature and then the fan cooled it down to below that temperature, heat builds up and then rises again.

His suggestion works but you may consider what is causing the cpu to get that hot.
My room temp gets to 30 degree and the cpu fan rarely turns on.

(mine is JW model btw, but should be the same for this issue)

If you are on 211 BIOS, you could roll back to 209, which will raise the fan threshold.

^ i dont think that'll work coz i believe only the gpu fan threshold was changed in 211

My ambient temp is around 26-27 right now and my temp and fan rpm is as follows

Light use(browsing,movie,etc)- 43-46 degrees and fan on at 2000rpm
Idle- 38-40 degrees after a while and fan switches off

you might wanna try lowering the max threshold to see if that'll help run it cooler (although i doubt it'll work)

that's for the GPU fan dear... downgraded to 209 still cycling

    "BIOS211
To change threshold of the "Fan Full Run" setting for VGA device "

the CPU FAN turns OFF at 42 - 43 C and at this point it's starting to warm up and when it reaches 45 C it is turning ON (same cycle all the time)

can anyone test what i am saying?

^ i get what you're saying, but no it isnt cycling for me, not at 45 anyway..
mine only switches off the fan at around 40-42 i think

    at 42C turning off .....

at least that's what EVEREST is telling me

As Zapp Brannigan would say "I just wish I understood why.....why I should care."

The laptops practically silent when in idle whats the point of this thread? Fan turns off when not needed and turns back on when it thinks it is. Set your power options accordingly to adjust.

^ heh +rep for awesome futurama reference

i guess his main problem is he's finding it annoying that the cpu fan is cycling between on/off so quickly and frequently..

I would assume its either asus power for gear or he isn't using performance or balance mode for power plan. Under power plan settings click advanced settings, processor power management, system cooling and change it to active.

as i would say ( you don't need to care just ignore the post if you don't find it interesting... but if you try to put yourself in my place maybe you will see things from a different angle)
i wish my camera was with me so i can record HD quality and you can hear the sound and yes it is CYCLING ON EVERY 30 SECONDS
so yeah maybe i need to put some earplugs or listen some music or work in a crowd...maybe then i would not care
I agree that FUN turns off when not needed but we all know how many bugs came with those laptops ...

Even changing minimum processor state to 100% didn't helped
it is cooling down till it reaches 42 C then Stop and here we go again and again and again and again....

    and ofcourse cooling is active
    HIGH PERFORMANCE active

set the cooling policy to passive in the energy profile(entertainment/balanced) you use your idle work(browsing/videos)..
and active in the high perf one..

then the fan shouldnt cycle at rest with passive cooling..
i tested this, when i set cooling to active the fan started cycling frequently at rest.. never noticed this before as i only switch to high perf to play a game.

i hope this solves your problem..
PS: set the min max proc states to default, changing them won't help with this..

But i still don't see how you could hear your fan cycling on/off, i cant make out the diff between on and off state by listening for it..

Edit: hmm interesting observation, the temp threshold for switching the fan off seems higher in active mode than in passive, i.e. the fans are switching off quicker in active mode, shouldnt it be the other way around?

the cooler is passive for those modes you've mentioned(entertainment / balanced) only in batery mode if you have it plugged in it is active by default.
I have tried passive cooling but same thing i didn't even noticed a change
thanks for testing i appreciate it
