I'm using MSI afterburner to track my GPU usage.

and a mix of the intel windows 7 gadget along with throttlestop to monitor my CPU usage.

so what's happening is that i'm playing a game happily sitting at good temps 70s to high 80s on both my CPU and GPU. then for some inexplicable reason i'll loose most of my frames during high dynamic moments in the game. not weird in it's own right. but what is weird is that my GPU / CPU usage actually decreases during these moments.

for instance sitting in scene idle in X game i get 99% gpu usage and 70 FPS
then when i start moving around the map hunting mobs my GPU usage will drop to 50% and my frames will plummit into the 20s.

at the same time my CPU will loose turbo or wont increase past 1.87ghz to compensate for the increased compute requirements.

I'm currently using throttlestop having disabled BD PROCHOT. But that doesn't seem to free my GPU / CPU from turning themselves down during moments when they should be turning themselves up.

    any suggestions

    been looking over the forums.

    or

am i just crazy and this is what happens.

but i really feel like my computer is leaving a lot of power on the table that it should be using when it needs it the most.

Have you run ThrottleStop with the Log File option checked so you have a record of your CPU's performance while gaming? Do you have any idea what the numbers in the log file are telling you about your CPU?

Manufacturers use a multitude of throttling methods and BD PROCHOT is just one of them. It sounds like your CPU is throttling. Copy and paste a log file to Pastebin.com - #1 paste tool since 2002! and then send me a PM and I will have a look at your info and tell you what I see in the log. You can not fix a problem until you fully understand it and a ThrottleStop log is a good place to start. Also post a screen shot of how you have ThrottleStop set up. You have to have a good understand of the program before it can help you out.

You could be hitting into TDP limits which can cause it to drop in frequency at peak loads.
