Anyone else having any issues with the monitor? My monitor doesn't turn on all the time. I find myself having to remove the battery and the power cord then put the power cord back and that usually gets the monitor working. The keypad and all the buttons light up, but the asus splash screen doesn't show up. Monitor stays completely blank. I'm currently trying to establish if the hard drive is working when the monitor blanks out, but of course right now it starts up fine every time. I'll repost when I determine that. In the meantime was wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar issue? I noticed that there is a recent bios update and hoping that will take care of it, but I flash the bios as a last resort since everything else is working fine when the monitor starts. That and I haven't found any good documentation actually describing what the new bios fixes.

You should be able to see a bios screen or error message at the very least (even without the hard drive functioning properly). I would RMA it asap. Sounds like you may have a faulty connection or a faulty LCD altogether.

Sounds like you have a hardware problem not software.

But, have you tried Setup Screen (BIOS) - F2, Safe Mode - F8 or Recovery - F9 when booting it up?

I have verified that when I power on the laptop and don't get a splash screen the hard drive is not running. Screen just stays blank. The function keys all worked whenever the system powers up properly, but F9 didn't do anything. What should F9 do? Del will bring up the windows boot manager. Insert brings up the windows error recovery console. My bios version is 205. Still can't find any documentation about what version 206 fixes.

F9 is to bring up the ASUS recovery partition. If you are able to read warning messages on the screen then it just may be your hard drive. You could replace it or you may have to RMA it...if you don't have the actual recovery discs. You would have no means of placing a factory image on a new hard drive.

You could always install Windows 7 Home Premium from a disc onto another hard drive. If it boots up normally then you know the original hard drive has failed.

Can't run the recovery because I wiped the drive as soon as I got the laptop. I still don't understand why they shipped the laptop with 4 partitions. But it doesn't really matter. It has to be something with the MB or bios because it won't even post so no chance to try a recovery. And when it does post there is no need to do anything as it works perfect. I'm now in the process of dealing with asus support. I'm guessing I'll be RMA'ing this thing pretty soon if flashing the bios doesn't work. But I still don't want to do that until I find some documentation about it. Support hasn't given me any documentation yet. I don't want to end up with a laptop that doesn't always post and a keyboard that never lights up.

I got my A2 last week and i am experiencing a similar problem. when I press the power button its lights up for 1 second then goes off, a few seconds later it automatically starts up again but the screen stays blank, no ASUS splash screen nothing. all lights including keyboard come on.

infinite15, did you get a fix for yours? what was it?

These systems have 8GB RAM correct? Try removing the top RAM chip (the easiest to remove) and try booting again. Some of these units don't run right with 8GB. My BB version is one. Gives the exact same symptoms when I try to add that last 2GB of ram.

    Try it, can't hurt.

    Cheers,

I can't see how taking out one RAM stick would help, will give it a try anyway. Its hard to tell if its a software or hardware issue, im gonna do a factory re-install and see if that helps. Waiting on repsonse from my retailer as to what i should do next. hopefully its a known issue that has a fix and I don't have to wait weeks for a RMA.

I know, doesn't make any sense at all. This guy has the same issue as me when adding that last RAM module. Let us know if removing the RAM works or if it's just a coincidence.

    Cheers,

Did either of you try removing the top RAM module yet. I'm very interested to see if this problem can be repeated.

    Cheers,

Not sure I want to try that with all the issues people have experienced with BIOS 206. I think I'll stick with 6GB if that's the answer.

Hopefully one of the above will confirm the issue is related to populating all the RAM slots and I can hope ASUS will resolve the problem before I need more than 6GB.

    Cheers,

Sorry I took so long. I didn't really check this thread after I had to RMA the laptop. I never did get a chance to try removing the RAM module before I sent it in. I wish I would have seen that idea before I sent it in to see if that was the real issue. Asus said they replaced the motherboard and when I got it back the issue was resolved. Of course it was replaced by an entirely new problem, but my boot up issue is fixed.
