So I got up this morning stating to myself, If its on sale I have to buy it.
So I fired up my piece-o-crap laptop and went to bestbuy.com. Typed in G73 in the search bar, as I always do, and see the price is RED..
Look for yourself!
Asus - Laptop / Intel® Core i7 Processor / 17.3" Display / 6GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive - Black - G73JH-BST7
How can I possible pass up that deal? I did say if it was on sale I'd buy it, so well, I guess today is the day!
-
-
its on sale from $1,199.99 to $1,199.00. A saving of .99. Is this for real or a typo?
-
I think that this is a BB issue and not ASUS , but I fought with them for weeks to get one of mine fixed. And others in the area also had the same problem.
And they came up with every excuse that they could to not work on the computers. The last time mine was taken in they kept it for 2 weeks and said it was full of bodily Fluids and infested ! This is on the paperwork .
Now you might not have this problem where you live , but I want to make sure that you where aware of this.
The ASUS management told me that this was a issue that they have had with BB and had to repair many that where sold through there stores . But they will warranty the unit . -
I think squaretrade offers 3 year warranty on laptops for around $150.00. It's another option.
SquareTrade Warranties | Extended Warranties for 70% Less Than Retail | Electronics Insurance Alternative -
It is 100000% legit. Just called my local store to verify it. I will probably wait until Friday when I get paid to buy it, but yeah.
I had a feeling it was gonna be on sale, but .99 is kind of ridiculous. Atleast give me 100 off! -
When you factor in the sales tax your looking at close $1300 depending on what state you are in. For $1450 you can get 1080p 2gb more ram and the 2nd hdd. Only $150 more really. Just a thought.

-
I really hate being poor. -
I understand completely. I bought my JH for $750 on craiglist, so I know about poor (it was broken and I had to RMA it). Another option is the refurb RBBX05s at newegg for $879 but you have to wait for it to be in stock (I hear they sell out in five minutes). Only 90 day warranty though.
-
Yea, I have been checking craigslist and cowboom and ebay for it, but its just not happening. I would love to be able to buy the more expensive ones and get the 2 year warranty, but that is just not happeneing -
I got my RBBX05 for like 900 with some..."negotiating" with the "nice" Geek Squad people.
-
-
I have this model, the BestBuy one, and between the 1080p and the 720p monitor is not enough difference to matter to me. And the 6 gig of ram or 8 gig does not matter in less you are running some very high end software.
I run Video Forensic and Audio Forensic software at the same time and still do not use up all the 6 gig of ram that I have. The only thing my Unit had that some do not is the 7200rpm Hard drive.
So you should be fine on this unit.
The one thing that would have mattered that I can think of is the Blueray drive, and I do not use Blueray so that was not something I wanted.
For me the later model would have just been for bragging rights as the one that I have will do all I need to do and then some. -
-
I have enough credit on my card to get it after I get paid Friday. I really wanna buy all I can afford cause I don't buy much. -
GET IT! (i did) DOnt worget their hassle-free 2 year warranty for @200. The other comp for $150 more with more features cant be had with best buy's nice warranty. Peace of mind is priceless
-
Best Buy's warranties are absolute garbage. They send your stuff to a district Geek Squad wharehouse. Sounds great an all but the Geek Squad guys in my area are the biggest bunch of idiots and down right rude to add to it. I would buy anywhere that allows you to go through Asus for any repair work.
-
.99 cents off: Better than nothing. With Best Buy warranty, you won't have to RMA it to ASUS as a nice NBR member told me. I do agree that GeekSquad isn't the best tech support around but with this laptop it seems that a 2 year warranty is really worth it. -
The Warranty that ASUS gives G73 owners does not apply to the Best Buy model. So keep that in mind . The Accident warranty does not apply also.
Asus will warranty the machine and after the 14 day return policy at BB you will not get the service that they say in less you have paid for there costly warranty. So just keep in mind and check every thing you can about buying at BB. Do a search and you will see what I and many many others have gone through trying to get a machine fixed at Best Buy. -
I bought mine through best buy, but I bought the RBBX05. I may go with an aftermarket warranty someone posted. I'm still in processing though, how long does it take.
-
I'm deftly getting mine this friday. Will have the money for everything, just one thing...Does anyone know where to get the blu ray player for this system?????
-D -
ASUS Online eStore -
Thanks for that help. Will be buying from there, although at the moment they are out of stock on the Blu Ray!!! It's always something, but then again I don't really need it till I get the screen fixed. Will post pictures on Friday of the laptop being unwrapped and the works.
-D -
The process was pretty painless for the most part, just pop out the old one and replace. -
AMAZING ...
5 stars...
They're also selling the older refurb version just like newegg for just about the same price (under $900). But forget the year's worth of service from ASUS
I could go on and on about how fast the processor and video card are. How ridiculously low the temperatures are on HIGH end settings. (completely max settings on ANNO and Civ V for hours of play = never higher than 70 degrees C)
The 6GB or DDR3 are more than enough for anything you throw at it. Unless you know you've got some ridiculous video/graphics editing that needs more (you'd know if you needed more before you bought it)
It comes with the 211 BIOS already installed.
The 5400rpm drive can be kept and a smaller SSD can be installed for crucial applications. Sure 7200rpm would have been nicer but realistically, while slower loading times are a few seconds of your life, it's easy to upgrade and the better processor makes up for this drawback. So this is not a con...
I recommend this entirely, but realistically, here are the cons to consider before you purchase.
Mouse pad is awful for anything other than very light use like browsing or word use. (mouse = quick fix)
It is HUGE so don't expect to move this around a lot
The screen is VERY sub-par. While the 1600x900 resolution is not that cumbersome, the fact that the range is terrible might annoy you. It certainly annoys me, so this is the first thing I'll upgrade. Left to right range is not too bad but I kid you not, if you move your head 1" higher or lower than the middle of the screen you'll notice the wash. Part of that has to do with the screen being so large, an even bigger part of that has to do with the screen being so cheap. Seeing as how I'm a capable human, I have a pretty good range of motion, so while this is annoying at times... it's certainly not a problem
And perhaps the biggest con is that you have to communicate with the Best Buy floor reps who are about as capable as a floor lamp but as annoying as a horny chimpanzee.
-------------------
Please please please go to the forums for this laptop and look at the "unboxing your G73" thread. You'll want to check every square inch of your new purchase, install new drivers, update and back up. Remove all the best buy junk and you're set. It took me about 6 hours to get this set up with all new drivers, favorite applications and massive game installations. -
But quick question Kuro, does the color of that dvd drive not match up with the rest of the laptop?
-D -
-
UHHHH that was a mouthful to say the least?
Anything else you need to say? -
On another note, when I do purchase this Friday do I show all the mods I do on this thread or do I start a new thread? Hmmmm, any thoughts?
-D -
I agree the screen is washed out, I was not even looking a that when I go it.
But now agter 2 months of use, I hate the screen, but that is the only draw back.
After the warranty runs out, and if other find screen that work, I might replace it. -
I highly recommend you replace the screen now, I've seen the difference between the two. I have to tell you, higher resolution equals awesomeness.
-D -
I can't really think of anything else right now, but thanks for quoting everything I said and adding nothing constructive to it
Next time I am excited about buying a new laptop and somebody starts a thread about exactly that, I'll try to be more brief in my explanation of pros and cons so as to not insult anyone who has difficulty reading a few paragraphs of information
or are you really just a best buy floor rep? -
I am DEFINITELY NOT associated with Best Buy in any way. I understand the excitement, I am just really frustrated with them right now, cause I'm 4 days at "processing". -
That sucks man, I can walk in Friday and get it whenever I want. Then have a ton at my store. How do they not for you???
Gahhh, I'm just looking at the specs for the G73JH-BST7, guess what it has a web cam of 1.3????? ???? Seriously now that pisses me off like crazy...
-D -
Honestly the webcams that come with any laptop in my experience are always trash, you're better off using a separate camera all together for pretty much everything.
-
The only laptop with a great webcam I've seen is the MSI GX660R, which comes with a 720p webcam. -
Gah, well I'm ordering that HDD bracket from Asusparts, so I might as well snag the 2mbs Webcam for the hell of it. I'm getting a lot of money left over because I'm buying it from BB. Can any one tell me if I buy that HDD Bracket, that I'm still missing the caddy or it has everything I need???
Also KuroLionheart, can you tell me what you meant by the faceplate to put on the new DVD driver, that astounded me since I'm newbie to computer modding...
-D -
-
I know that I could just flip this over, unscrew the plate and look but... that would involve all of those things.
Are you getting an HDD bracket to add a second HDD? I thought the second bay was already installed in this model. No? So, If I buy an SSD do I need to get a bracket or jerry-rig it? -
-
-D
-D -
-
By the way why don't you go a 500 gh SSD from Seagate? Its like 80% faster then a 7200rpm drive apparently. It retails for $109.99....
-D -
Speaking of the web cam upgrade, where does one find the G73 2.0 mp webcam part/item? I tried looking on Ebay and the Asus website but no luck.
-
-
-
Well I don't need top of the line like that web cam but I need top of the line that they have put in the model....without the hole in my wallet to buy it all at once. So the 2.0 mb one will work for me.
-D -
Just brought my computer today have pictures and videos but for now enjoy the pictures.
-
I went to best buy and bought this laptop but I got a hundred dollar of cuz I haggled for a good four hours with the seller. You should try and haggle for a discount.
