Wondering if anyone can help me? I recently updated my Intel Chipset drivers (not sure if this is software or firmware) before the ROG forums went down. Since then I think, but am not 100% sure, that my laptop fans seem to be louder. Not unhealthy (the sound is typical of a computer fan), but louder than I think they were?

    1) Does the chipset driver influence fan control? Could this be linked?

    2) My fans are always on, except when the machine is in standby. Is this typical of the G73JW?

    3) Using HWINFO32 at this exact moment, the GPU fan is at 2170RPM and the GPU temp is a 39oC. When running Crysis briefly this ramped up to over 3000 (think about 3500RPM) when the GPU recorded a high of just over 60, but then fell back to the 2100RPM mark once back at the desktop suggesting the sensors are working.

    4) CPU fan is always on around the 1900RPM level

Just curious. Its not insanely loud, but it is audible, and I am sure I have heard others described this as a quiet laptop. Not sure I would agree based on the current noise, so wanted to see if my fans were in the normal operational bracket for a JW?

I was actually wondering about this right now, I have a G73JH and my fans are barely audible (I cant hear them when I'm in front of my laptop) even when I putt my ear next to them. However they can get pretty fast (perceptible) when I'm doing extreme gaming during long periods of time.

Is there is a way to just turn them both to max RPM for gaming and return to a normal speed when idle? I just don't want my fans to change speeds back and forward when I'm playing =p

    Thanks!

    1. hmmmmm

    2. Your fans should really always be on and rarely shut down if the system is running normally the only time they may not turn on is during a cold boot once the cpu/gpu begins to warn they will begin to spin.

    3. Perfectly normal my GPU idles at 46oC and I hit 2300RPM During gaming load I hit 3600RPM and during extreme burn 82oC 4200RPM. Never reaches max 4600RPM.

    4. Again perfectly normal mine runs around 47oC and idles at 2100RPM and at full load 69oC it reaches 3200RPM.

The fans are set to run at the speed required to maintain the cooling of the CPU/GPU some games dont even require the fans to reach full load so having them running at full pelt for no reason will only cause wear to the fan even though they last 50000 hours approx. The only way you can do this is with Fanspeed however it does work for me on the JH the only other option is to configure the BIOS which I do not recommend doing.
