Recently my LCD started displaying blue horizontal lines across the screen. At first, I thought it may be the graphics driver so I updated but still had the problem. Now, when I shake the laptop or lightly tap on it, the lines go away and everything is normal. It seems to me that there is a loose connection somewhere, perhaps the ribbon.

Is the only way to get to the ribbon to dissasemble the unit completely? It seems that there are some delicate parts in there. Any idea on what could be loose or any other problems it may be?

    Hi Pynenut

Yes the only way to fix this problem would be to disassemble and by your diagnosis of the problem I would be 99% sure that is your problem. Have you been inside before? Or maybe is was not fitted correctly at the time during its build which by Asus standards is quite acceptable ;)

You really only need to disasemble down till you reach the top side of the motherboard you do not need to remove it. Quite simple but time taken is required as it does require removing the audio cable and keyboard two of the most tricky parts.

The two connections you are looking at I have highlighted below taken from my guide:

You can use my guide here:

There is also the old trusty BTOtech video here:

Any questions feel free to ask.

While you are inside consider while you are in there you could also repaste your CPU and GPU especially if you have had it longer than a year the stock paste was known to degrade and was never the best choice of use by Asus back when the JH/JW were on the scene. Both guides above cover this for you.
