Some shops in Hungary have it in stock, price $3010 (USD) at current exchange rate.

Wow! That's highway robbery. Why do Europeans get ripped off so much when it comes to laptop prices? 3010$ is almost double the price. Why don't you guys shop US instead and let those gouging laptop shops die from bankruptcy? :p

You can purchase a G73JW for 1749$ from a US resellers that comes with:
    1080p, i7, 8g ram, 1tb, w7-764, usb 3.0, 460m 1.5g

International expedite shipping is +149$ USD.

Factor in the 3% cashback given by US resellers if you wire transfer or E-Check and you're golden.

So the total after the 3% cashback is 1843$ USD (stock unit + shipping included).

All you'd have to worry about is duty/custom fees and even with that tacked on, it won't go anywhere near the prices European shops are asking.

Czech Republic buyer would save about 500$ USD and the Hungary buyers would save about 900$ USD (assuming your custom fees are about 250-300$).

Edit: I will also add to that UK link:
    1,427.00 GBP = 2,274.89 USD
So you'd save about 150$-ish buying US if we assume custom fees are 250-300$.

Actually I'm gonna order JW from xotic pc in a few days now, so... :D Yeah.. I really don't understand pricing in CZE.. and even more why they have these hybrid models, which are stupidly expensive with no choice of customize..

Yup, it's pretty disgusting how European companies can get away with this. I feel really bad for Hungarians paying almost 1000$ more for the G73JW. It's kind of like "the richer get richer and poorer get poorer" type of business over there with technology costing almost double. Criminal if you ask me.

Europe should adopt what Quebec (Canada) has. One of the best consumer protection laws and regulation in the world. Companies who gouge get fined and shut down by a government task force.

Even in Hong Kong it's better to usually order from the States, even better because there are no duties or taxes. But it really really feels weird to have to order from the United States a laptop that was undoubtedly manufactured less than a 100 km away from where I sit in Shenzhen because it's much cheaper.

I live in Ireland and was considering ordering from the US, but was put off by the potentially large customs fees and concerns over what I would do if the laptop went wrong - would I need to ship it back to the US to get support?

Does anyone have any experience in ordering to Ireland from the US?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

Actually you don't have to pay customs duty on laptops bought from the USA in Hungary. What you have to pay is 25% VAT (on the price of the laptop + shipping) and a "handling" fee for the Hungarian post office. So calculating with $1843 given by you it would be about $2304 + the handling fee (which should be less than $50).

Of course the story is not over yet, due to the fact that the word "global" in Asus's Global Warranty is not well known in some European countries (including Hungary). Shipping your $2300+ laptop back to the USA in case of something stops working is not a cheap game, and I haven't mentioned anything about the risk of getting your lappy damaged during shipping and the time you have to wait till you get it back.

Wait. What? Your saying that Asus Hungary does not repair G73JH with global warranty? That would be a big Asus FAIL :)

Well yes.. I had a chat with Asus Hungary a little while ago about this, mainly because I wanted to buy a G73JH from the States. I was kinda shocked to hear that Asus Hungary cannot really accept laptops even with Global Warranty from overseas. Everything from within the EU is fine but outside of that is a "no-go". Asus H. also told me that it all depends on the serial number. If it is a US one it is likely that its warranty won't be accepted here or at least they cannot promise anything...

If this is true, than Asus "Global" Warranty is a lie :/

Btw, I asked about Global Warranty in Hungary a few months ago from Asus USA, they sad this (my problem was that the G73 was not listed on the RMA page):
"The specific models that we have in the US or Canada region will vary in other countries, the internal database will however still show the correct base model. The global warranty will still be in effect. It will enough that you pick the closest model family which in your case is G71. If you have difficulty obtaining warranty support from the local service center, you can request them to contact our US office internal for model verification"

So in short, Asus Hungary _has to_ repair G73 from US if it has GLobal Warranty, however if they have problem with the serial, just ask them to contact Asus USA.

    1,754.20 GBP = 2,838.05 USD

    Gigantic rip off!

I remember calculating the UK cost from buying US and after duties it was less than 2200$ USD.

Don't even go near UK shops that sell it for that amount. You might as well drive down the freeway and throw out hanfuls of 100$ bills.
