    Have you guys seen the preorders for this? Geez, I hope there aren't any issues. It looks like the same thing as the B1 version of the jh...replaces the AMD part with an Nvidia one.

    Nvidia's drivers stomp all over AMDs, so...this is definitely the one I'd pick. I randomly added a preorder to my cart.

    Anyone think it'll have random weird issues? I do wish it could use a GTX 470 or 480, as the cores are way cut down (although also clocked several hundred MHz faster I think), but still, for me this is a really nice system. Close to as good as I could want, other than wishing I could magically have an even faster CPU and more cores on the GPU for the same price...but otherwise it's just the hardware I want.

    No problems so far but i only got mine this morning :D...

    The card is abit slower then the 5870m after having owned both but nothing to write home about , it runs cool and loves to be overclocked ;)...

    Great machine overall and have been enjoying it all day ...

    Oh wow, AWESOME! Thanks for the report! Hee hee, if I break down and get one, I'm going to Fold on it hard like I do my lowly N80 :-D

    Dang, I should talk myself out of this, because honestly right now I don't NEED it (my backlog is HUGE), and there will be better stuff next year with Sandy Bridge (although it wouldn't surprise me if the GPUs are done updating for quite a long time).

    But...that's almost EXACTLY the hardware I want. Big, high quality LED backlit screen, quad core CPU (and not even the lowest end one!) and a third to the best Nvidia GPU, plus 8GB + Blu Ray? Literally can't get much better than that. Heck, Dell doesn't even have a Geforce 4x0 card yet!

    Definitely hold out if you can. Sandy Bridge + next year's mobile GPU's. ATI is pushing memory bandwidth across its lower end to help differentiate its lower end and integrated (a la Bulldozer) while Intel is pushing out Sandy Bridge. Both camps should be having Optimus-like technology going widespread, which will significantly improve battery life, heat, noise, and very likely the lifespan of your laptop.

    Think about how much you actually use your computer for 3d versus how much an integrated video would be on and your somewhat hot, power-loving video card would be off. I look forward to Optimus tech being standard because I think it will offer consumers a lot in returns. Unfortunately, right now the i7 line doesn't have an integrated GPU (mostly) so Asus isn't taking advantage of the possibility, but with nVidia pushing it throughout every mobile GPU they've released recently, I think it's inevitable.

    And AMD's assuredly going to have something similar to go with its Bulldozer + GPU gaming laptops.

    For this technology, I would wait. Not for some mythical speed improvement that's always around the corner, not for prices to drop as they may or may not, but for a much cooler running laptop that should be less prone to video card failures due to the fact it'll be running considerably less than today's gaming laptop's GPU's run.

    If I didn't ready have the JH I would definitely go for the JW as not having to deal with vBios and driver issues alone would make up for the slight hit on performance.

    Personally I don't want Optimus because it hurts performance and I have no need for longer battery life. So if it's not a bit upgrade in terms of performance, it won't help me. If Sandy Bridge ends up a lot more powerful though...

    In terms of power consumption, it seems like each generation Nvidia gets that down for idle, so hopefully that'll keep getting better with clock gating or whatever! Shut down bug chunks of the GPU plus underclocking it should keep helping.

    Actually, for that matter I usually am using my GPU full blast running Folding @ Home (CPU too of course).

    ??? It took me all of 15 mins to do a BIOS, vBIOS, and 10.8 CCC install

    No grey screens of death after that? They fixed it? (If so, yay, since I like buying from companies that try to get to the bottom of issues!)

    So how often would you say that a G73 with ati's drivers will throw a bsod, gsod... etc?

    If updated with the new vbios it should never throw a GSOD.

    Wrap this around your vbios

    Code:
    try
    {
        Play Game
    }
    catch (Exception ex)
    {
        throw GSOD
    }
    finally
    {
         Restart Computer
    }
