I'm think of buying the G73jw-a1 from xoticpc.com. With the following specs:
    16GB ram
    i7- 740QM processor
    nvidia GTX 460m 1.5GB

The reason why I want a laptop with these specs is because I'm mostly going to use it with programs similar to Adobe After Effects CS5, Adobe Premiere, 3DS Max, Houdini, Maya. As well as encoding videos.

Do you think these are good specs or do you think it'd be better to get the JH. Or wait for the sandybridge ones?

Oh and the reason why I want a laptop instead of a desktop is because I'm going to travel a lot and even though the laptop wont be lightwight it'll be easier to travel around with than a desktop.

Dont know if Im 100% sure but I think you would benefit more from the 840qm or 940xm rather than 16gb of ram. I have 8gb and can run like10 instances of visual studio with large projects loaded. Plus isint vidoe encoding a processor intensive task?

    Hello,

I have the G73JH - BestBuy Version with a RAM upgrade 8GB total and the 1600x900 display and use both the Adobe Products you mention. No Complaints!!! - I do intend to eventually switch out the LCD for the higher resolution version to gain some more desktop realestate but other then that the Adobe apps scream right along - Not a professional by any means mostly doing my own hobby level publishing and Graphics.

Only thing to think about is when you travel you'll be caring a good 10Lbs with the charger and other goodies - Also It might not be the best size for working on the plane in coach/business class.

    In Peace and Agape,
    Trav...

And how about handling mulutiple virtual systems?
So I should go for the faster processor than the Ram, in that case should I wait for sandybridge?

Lol you did not say anything about virtual systems in your first post :)

Yes that will require more than 8gb and as for the sandybridge I have not looked at that as im happy with my G73 rigth now.

Yup. Good luck buying that. Also, q1 2011 is only jan. of next year ... but asus won't release it on january 1st. It'll be sometime in the first 3 months of next year that all the sandybridge chips are released, and a period of time after that before they're shipped, installed and put on shelves to buy.
