OK, so I know it's an older model, but I'm stuck with just one issue. I've been reading as much as I could on the issue, but haven't found one that has fixed my issue.
So I can start it up and do minor things such as browse the web, solitaire, stuff like that. But if I try to update my windows experience, play any games, or anything like that it shuts down with no warning. I have upgraded fans and use a cooling pad, and my Temps have never been above 60*c on either CPU or GPU. I did reapply thermal paste while I was in there and it did decrease Temps by about 5*. Never over clocked it or anything like that.
I have gone into management and looked for any errors to get an idea on what is causing the issue, but it shows only that the system was shut down improperly. I'm at my wits end. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you need anymore info let me know.

By the way, it's not thermal issue. My browser has set that as auto correct. It should just be g73jw issue

I'm thinking it might be the motherboard power delivery going bad. I mean, it's quite an old machine. Gaming laptops don't tend to last past 4 years or so for the most part.

Well I can give a quick update at something I caught. My CPU will overlook itself to 2980Mhz just sitting on the desktop with HWMonitor running. So pretty much it is over clocking itself. It climbs even higher when trying to run any big programs before it shuts down. Wattage is good at 50, and it doesn't fluctuate down when opening a program. Don_svetlio It has a newer motherboard in it already. Is there anyway to stop allowing overclocking? Also the BIOS is AMI G73jw 205. It was made back in 11, I can't find any updates past that but feel there should be. Any ideas?

That's not automatic OCing, that's Intel's Turbo Boost. It's not the issue as, if power draw was the problem, the system would automatically throttle down, provided the firmware is functioning correctly.

The only thing I have not been able to update is the bios past 205. But the CPU clocking from 1730Mhz to 2980Mhz seems stupid high to me. As I said I'm at my wits end on this. I have monitored everything that I can using multiple things, and haven't found anything to be causing the issue. No types of messages, concerning power, temp or usage issues

Try a replacement card (they're quite cheap). You can also bake it, which should give it another leash on life for a year or two. That usually works with good effect for me, but that's with a temperature-controlled hot air station and a digital thermometer, not a regular oven.Amlinderman likes this. -
Where is a good place to get a replacement card? One that already flashed to asus and is for all intents and purposes plug and play?

Yes, all those strangely-shaped versions are Asus-specific. Those ebay listings would be fine, just make sure to order the 1.5GB rather than the 1GB model. The latter doesn't have all its vram footprints populated, making it easy to distinguish.
