I am a PC Technician who does freelance PC building and support for various small businesses in the Dallas TX Area. Let me tell you the G73 is a great laptop...

Accept for the dead LAN port, Oh and the sudden dead pixels. Oh and ASUS making my model specifically for Best Buy WITHOUT A FULL HD SCREEN like every other G73. That was a nice unplanned feature.

Oh and let’s not forget the fact that ASUS wants me to pay shipping to fix their hardware problems within my first month of owning it.

But this laughable webcam with 5 frames per second is a huge corner to cut for a "gaming" laptop. It is so underpowered it sent me on this rant. I never probed deeply into the webcams specs but I assumed it would at least be able to record at 30 Fps like every cheap cell phone can. The Camera on my cellphone is far superior and it didn’t cost 1200 dollars.

I guess mostly I am just peeved off that I was duped and spent all this money for a watered down version of this notebook ASUS custom made cheaply just for Best Buy.

I should have just waited for the shipping and got the Newegg G73 and I would have the Full HD screen and maybe none of these other issues. Well it's too late now.

I'll have to deal with the now dead pixels all around my screen. Otherwise I'll keep having to send it away for weeks at a time to fix hardware issues. I cannot go without a computer for weeks when I desperately need for school and on site work.

There are so many good design features of this Laptop, like the awesome heat dispersion fans in the rear, or the impressive Quad i7 and other specs.
Accept I can’t make a YouTube video without it looking like it’s a live feed from the moon in the 1960s.

But the G73 is Great laptop... The version on NewEgg.com at least...
    BEWARE of Best Buy.

Shame on you ASUS! This is an inferior adaptation of the otherwise awesome G73.

I have been a Certified PC Tech for 12 years. During that time I have recommended ASUS motherboards over all other brands to my PC clients. I have subsequently sent tens of thousands of dollars of profit their way.

This experience has tarnished that reputation greatly.

You should've returned it for a refund as a defective unit or at least exchanged it for a new one while you were in Best Buy's exchange/return period.

The lasting remaining G73SW on Newegg, a G73SW-BST6, is a refurbished Best Buy model with a gimped graphics card and a gimped screen.

Besides some questionable marketing tactics with their G-series notebooks over the last few years, I still consider ASUS a top-notch brand overall, and definitely one of the better motherboard manufacturers.

The BST6 does have a 128bit GPU but the screen is no more gimped than the one in your signature ^^ ;)

Sadly it seems you have come across a dud which has problems but every laptop has something wrong with it you rarely get a perfect model and you should consider returning it within your warranty period for a replacement. Sadly the webcam on all the newer G-Series is not good but its a common problem with laptops as well if you intend to do some serious recording you are better off getting an external cam, the mic is not much better either.

If you need a model now take it back and put the extra towards it to pick up a G74 $1200 is a lot for the model you got from BB.

+1, and i own a bst-6. i too am a pc tech and i also bought the bst-6 not knowing the difference in specs. i bought it on impulse because my previously laptop suddenly died on me after 4 years and i needed a replacement asap as i was traveling for business the next day.

but, i am very happy with it. 1080p on a 17 inch screen isn't that big a deal to me. even the gimped 460 isn't a big deal to me. i have a pretty powerful desktop setup with dual 1080p monitors.

i was more pissed about the the lack of bluetooth and blu-ray. however, both of those are easy and inexpensive fixes. I ordered a intel 6230 to replace the atheros card in my laptop. its a better wireless card overall and it includes bluetooth. and i plan to buy a bluray drive but i have not pulled the trigger because i have one in my desktop and i primarily watch high rez mkv's on my laptop. so no rush there.

i am happy with my purchase.
