Has anyone heard if BESTBUY was going to stop caring this model. I have talked to local BB, 1800BESTBUY and ASUS and no one can give me a readon why it went from backorder to unavailable for shipping. I have been waiting a month now for a answer because I want one.

I also heard that some on here ordered one in Mar but i can't find out if he/she ever got it.

    Thanks!!

I would highly suggest you not buy the Best Buy SW as the 460M in that one is poo. Go to XoticPC or some other retailer online and get one.

Thanks for the info. Why is the 460M poo? I plan to use if for some gaming but also for everyday use. Is there any other reason this one would be a bad laptop?

All gtx 460m are 192bit GDDR 1.5gbs.. Bestbuy models means a skimp in display usually.. They'll give you an oddball display lower than full 1080P. Some call this a blessing in disguise because as long as it's a native low resolution it looks good better than a native higher resolution adjusted to a lower one. Remember that gtx 460m or 5870 is still a mobile class gpu so when you run it wit a natively lower res display you get a better fps as well as naturally better looking video as compared to a full HD set to the lower non-native res..

Actually that's not true... the Bestbuy version of the G73SW has 1Gb of memory and the performance isn't close to the 1.5Gb version due to the lower memory bandwitdh/performance.

    Here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/563658-gtx-460m-vram-1gb-vs-1-5gb.html

As for the OP, I would go with the G73SW-XA1 from Amazon or the G73SW-XT1 from Tigerdirect, same price as the Bestbuy but a better/faster laptop :)

This might be a little silly of me to say, but aside from the watered-down hardware and lowered resolution and other under-the-hood changes, the most offensive thing about the Best Buy models of the G53SW and G73SW is how they changed the design of the chassis. Instead of one big central hinge, they have these two chintzy-looking small hinges on the left and right sides. It just utterly decimates one of the most distinctive and attractive aspects of the design of these laptops.

    I mean, look at this:

    Ugh. Yuck.

Please show me one that has anything different. I think you are very sadly mistaken

Weird. This is the way my G53SW looks:

With one big central hinge. See?

I guess I was mistaken - all of the G73 series has the two small hinges. I honestly had no idea - I thought there was continuity between the two models, and since the G53 had the one hinge then the G73 would too. Whoops! Apologies for coming across like an idiot.

Its all good, the hinges are different due to the weight of the screen and the width I would guess.

Forgive me for hijacking this thread, but can anyone comment on the gaming performance of the G73 model compared to the G53 model? I cant decide between the two. Thanks

I would REALLY stay away from the G53 models at Best Buy. It is *not* worth it at all. You get really poor screen resolution, the typical 1GB of VRAM instead of 1.5GB on the GTX 460M, and you only get an i5 processor instead of an i7. For just an additional $100 you can go onto newegg and upgrade *all* of those, plus you won't have to go through Best Buy to get your warranty. I don't entirely know about the G73s, but as far as the G53 model goes it is *not* worth it to purchase it at Best Buy.

Well, to be honest, the 1 vs 1.5gb of vram doesn't make any real life difference (but does when benchmarking!).

As for the i5 vs i7, well, to me that's worth a $100 upgrade. Same with the screen. But for people on a budget, it's a great deal from BB, and the fact you can go in and complain is a big plus...

Oh trust me, that is definitely not the only difference. They gimped the 1GB 460M really hard somehow. My friend got it and we were comparing game performance between his and my JH, it was dreadful to be honest. It was really bad and he was extremely disappointed, he returned it in a day and a half and bought a refurbished G73JH-BST7. He's been MUCH happier, the gaming performance is not even close. I must say though the refurbished ones from BB are surprisingly good, his came practically brand new and his temps out the box are outstanding.

I think I read here somewhere that it only has 128 SP enabled instead of the usual 192, but not sure.

You meant 128 bit memory rather than the 192 bit.

So...did you get any new intel regarding this matter? I'm in the same boat as far as waiting on this model to come out, because I've got the Buyback Program with Best Buy and I'm trying to trade in my G73JH for a G73SW-BST8 model laptop.

That buyback program is garbage. Don't ever get it again - you'll save more money by simply buying elsewhere and reselling on kijiji. Of course, if money is no issue - and the convenience is the reason you've done the buyback ... why are you shopping at best buy? You'll get better prices and service from ANYWHERE else ... even tiger direct (sad to say...)

I talked with 1888 best buy and asus. From what i can get out of them is that asus and Best but did not expect so many people to want this version (200 bucks for 1920x1080p, blu-ray and extra 250 gig duh!!) they are having trouble filling the order. Best buy main warehouse stated that they will be getting more but no official date yet........Person said to call back once a week and as soon as they get it in the warehouse to order direct from them.
