I can't seem to get any real answers from the crappy Asus ROG forums and that site is always down lately.
No trying bash Asus but the members do a better job of resolving issues and questions there than the actual paid staff.
Unacceptable!
I own a G74S with the 3DTV Play tag on it.
It came with no 3d glasses though.
I noticed in the start tab I have an option to enable or disable 3d Vision.
Why do I have this option? Does it even work?
I have no 3d stereoscopic options in my Nvidia control panel.
What exact 3d capabilities does my laptop have?
Do I need to buy Nvidia's $40 software on the driver site?
Do i need to buy a 3d LCD or can I just go buy the glasses?
I was looking at the Asus VG278H to buy if I do need an LCD anything better?

so, briefly, you need 3D screen first if you dont see any 3D logo near the notebook cam because not computer only graphic card supporting 3D unfortunatelly for the marketing business they are selling like that -
-
2 things reflect whether you can use 3d. The monitor normally will need to have at least 120hz and the second factor is going to be the potency of your video card.
-
The asus asus vg278h is 120hz. -

Can you pretty please?

Sure!
Worse case scenario you would need to purchase the NVIDIA 3D vision kit. I'm not sure if 1.4a will trip the VG278H built in emitter -
HDMI to VGA and 3D sounds so hard,,, because a huge data you transfer with HDMI 1.4 " and 1.4 is the key for 3D " and actually data bandwidth even depends cable to cable,,,
so if the notebook itself " screen I mean " does not support 3D in any case Gseries Asus with GTX 5..M / 4..M series GPU will support 3D externally but with VGA I dont think so!!!
people should look for purchasing the notebooks as 3D itself or supporting 3D,,, this is generally faced problem G7 series,,,
Nvidia GPU will support 3D via HDMI for sure but for notebook itself 120Hz screen is minimum required,,, -

If you wanted to use 3D on a projector you'd need to purchase a 3D ready one. (Acer makes a wonderful sub $600 3D projector) -

Hi!
I didn't have time to try this at the shop so I did it at home.
The G74SX will work with the ASUS VG278H. HOWEVER!
It can only run through 3D TV Play. This means you will be limited to ONLY 720p.
Please note that the laptop display MUST be disabled for this to properly work
ALSO! You shouldn't have to purchase 3D tv Play software because you are using the built in emitter with the monitor
Here's some more info on 3D TV play:

Here's a photo of the setup working ( Please ignore the crappy quality)

Please let me know if you have any other questions -
So what 3d LCD will do 1080?
Thanks alot man! -

You would have to purchase the 3D sku of the g74SX in order to get true 3D vision.
and it would ONLY work on the internal display

Awww damn.
I'm bummed out. -

I couldn't tell the difference between Just Cause 2 on 3D TV play vs 3D Vision2
I played about 20mins of the intro in both 3D tv Play and then in 3D Vision2 and the ONLY time I noticed anything was during the beginning when you were free falling out of the plane. The 3D TV play had more ghosting compared to the 3D vision2 but it wasn't show stopping. -
1080P and 3D almost impossible,,, even with PS3 because it means that 1920*1080*2 " 2 picture will be rendered " so as you can see most of the PS3 game also 720P because of the frame issue, even drawing of the 1920*1080 is to hard hz will decrease and if you get this as 3D yes maybe you can get 3D picture
1-2 fps

) is the size of the projector. The optoma one is really small. Do you think that a HDMI to VGA converter could work?
-
Ok so if I get the Asus get the 1.4a HDMI cable?
