Looking to replace my current system with either a G74/G75 or maybe N series. I travel in a motorhome so the wifi card is VERY high on my list in addition to 1080p, good GPU, i7 CPU, 7200 HDD. My question is, are there any standard build G74/G75 units with an Intel 6300/6250/6230 wifi card? If not it looks like I must order from Xoticpc, GentechPC, or powernotebooks.com. Any and all comments and direction would be Very helpful, tired of trying to figure out what cards all these systems have.

I don't think there is a standard build with the Intel 6000 series card. However, even doing the swap yourself is ridiculously easy. If you're uncomfortable about doing it, then yeah xotic, gentech and co are pretty much your only option.

Thanks, That is a bummer :( I was hopping to find at least i or 2 units with a decent wifi card. If I am going to upgrade want something with at least a 2x2 and better than 150 mps. Years past I would have replaced card, but alas, I am not able to do that any more, so I am at the mercy of the prebuilt.

That is correct, there is not a standard build with the Intel 6300 stock.

Thanks for the reply, are any of the G74/G75 units built with a 2x2 or 3x3 any brand wifi card?

How does Sager, Clevo, MSI compare to Asus? Not familiar with them at all, but do want a machine to last a long time.

The Intel 6300 can be bought on e-bay cheap and switched out in the G74 quite easily for a problem free life.

But to be honest with latest drivers i don't have any problems with the Atheros card when playing any online games.

The G75VW-RS72 on XOTICPC just looks godlike in terms of performance/quality/price (also you can customize the hell out of it with what u need there). At times like this i wish i would live in the US :)

The wifi adapter on the G75 is not very easy to access if you intend on upgrading it in the future.

The G74 is very easy to work with for MOST of the commonly upgraded components, including the wifi adapter.

Yup, pretty much. The wifi adapter is located under the keyboard.

It takes about 20 screws and some prying to get to it.

There are no service manuals that I am aware of for it as Asus generally doesn't want anyone other than resellers and their people to dig into their laptops save for the stuff in the easy access panel.

Hm, crap. I cant find any video or pictures. Do you have some? Otherwise I will have to try. Is anything taped? Most annoying thing on the G73 was the Keyboard (had to re-flaten it hehe).

    What do you thing? Repasting?

    Greetings
