ASUS G74SX-RH71
Hey all, I was playing the Guildwars 2 beta this weekend and I had some FPS issues. The game usually ran fine with 30-60fps, but when multiple people start fighting at once in WvW or even SPVP, my fps goes to crap for 1-2 seconds and goes back up to 30 for the rest of the fight. What causes that?? It sometimes happens for battlefield 3 as well. Good fps, but when a lot fighting suddenly breaks out I get 8fps for 2 seconds. More insane stuff can happen after those 2 seconds and the fps stays high.. so I really dont know whats up.
I tried tweaking my GPU overclocks up a bit but it was still happening. Defragging HD didnt help. The only thing I could think of was that my GPU memory was bottlenecking the system? The rest of the GPU can be overclocked by quite a bit (have core at 880 from 775), but the memory is capped at 1500 in EVGA Precision and 1625 in Afterburner. Why is this cap so low and how do I overcome it?
Also since I am on the topic of memory, how does anyone OC their RAM? How do you go about doing that?
In any case, if anyone has a theory as to why my computer is having these strange lag spikes or knows a fix, Id love to hear it!

Hmm Still trying to find the root of the issue! The random FPS drops seem to perfectly coincide with GPU load dropping from 99% to 40% for 1 second, then climbing back up again. Anyone got a clue as to what might be causing that? Could it be that 150W isnt providing enough power?

Heat! Check your temps when it goes to 40%

When I play games I have constant 72C according to Afterburner.. that shouldnt be problematic right?

Have you ever run ThrottleStop with the Log File option checked so you have a record of the throttling problem? Many laptops use clock modulation throttling which can significantly slow the CPU down. When this happens, the GPU also drops like you are seeing. Run a log file while gaming. If the log file shows either type of throttling at less than 100.0% then you've got a problem. You can then use ThrottleStop to correct this problem. Turn on GPU temperature monitoring in the Options window so you have a record of that too before you start logging the data.

Hi, I have been taking a closer look at Throttlestop these last few days and I noticed that whenever I bring my laptop out of sleep mode, the BD PROCHOT option decides to turn itself back on... this might be the root of my problem..? Whenever this option is ticked, I experience the lagspikes and GPU load dips that I was talking about. Restarting throttlestop seems to untick the option every time and eliminate the problem entirely (in battlefield 3 at least)!
Is there any way I can lock BD PROCHOT in the "off" state using Throttlestop? Also, thank you for making Throttlestop!
Ill run the log file in a few days when Im done with my finals, just to see if theres anything up.
