this is a screenshot of what happened to me when i got this game

    http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k491/kcuestag/2011-03-20_00001.jpg

The game is stable, but runs like ! why is this!

PS: i already tried the commandline trick didn't work and i know this system is more than likely to run this game!
Also, im not running anything in the background and this computer is brand new the only thing i did to this is do some updates, gta patch, newest nvida driver (all after i found out this game didn't work ex: Windows updates)

It is one of those games that are poorly optimize for the PC and a bad port as well. It has nothing to do with your G74.

I disagree, i have GTA IV purchased on steam with the ICenhancer MOD and it's more than beautiful, i run a smooth 50fps with the mod and even more without it. I purchased it off steam a few weeks ago when it was on special. The only problem i know about GTA on PC are with people who have cracked versions. Some had a swinging camera view, other only played at 800*600 because graphic card was not recognized. In any case, if you have a LEGIT cdkey for it, get it off steam

Also i have a G73JH...there is no reason why he doesnt run the game on the G74

There are patches for the game that help it make playable.
Just google them. There's also a couple of tweaks that help as well.

They must have patch it up because it was horrible when it first came out, just atrocious really.

    I've fixed the problem

The commandline.txt tweak worked and i get about 35-40 fps on high

I agree that this is one poorly ported game as this runs like CRAP even on a powerhouse like the G74. Now all i gotta do is overclock it and it should be smooth sailings from here on out.

PS: I think some one else had the same problem as me. Just Youtube and Google " GTA 4 Commandline" it pretty simple.

The game has always ran great for me (minus some driver flicker) from the start. Might want to double check everything and try a clean install then patches if it keeps acting strange.

The thing is, that screenshot didn't really make sense other then what someone else had suggested of it not recognizing your video card. I've had a few games give me that but they still run fine on mine. Everything is still stock on my laptop too.

Thx, but I've fixed the problem. Just some messing around with the script and it worked.Only problem is it's not optimized for the PC so it doesn't run as smooth as it should, mind you it does though.
