My mate has an Asus G74 (i'm guessing SX?) which he just purchased like 2 weeks ago and he's just called me up saying that his screen went all red and he even did a restore back to his first restore point and it's still red.

I'll have more info once he brings it here and i have a look for myself, but does anyone have any preliminary thoughts?

The first thing i thought when he said that a restore point didn't work was "uh-oh, loose screen cable", but i guess i'll try sweeping and re-installing the drivers and see what's up. Though if it's red straight from POST then it's probably a screen issue rather than drivers...

Try hooking up the laptop to an external monitor or LCD TV via HDMI or VGA ports to see if the problem also appears there. If it doesn't, your idea about the laptop display video cable may be correct. If it the external monitor is also red, it could be a faulty GPU.

If you boot into the BIOS and it is red, you'll know any driver updates or re-installs from Windows will have no effect.

It may also be useful to install SpeedFan or HWINFO64 to monitor GPU temperatures.
