I just got the G74 (apparently gimped version?) from Best Buy to replace my dying Gateway and immediately did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate

but whenever I try install the touchpad driver (this thing is driving me crazy, always jumping my cursor around when typing) it gives this error

the golden rule>>>" its brand new" if its not broken dont fix it. most computers that fail is becuz people mess with them right out of the box and mess them all up. ITS JUST MY THOUGHTS.... leave well anof alone. if people want to mess with one, then biuld one from scratch.

    @OP
Just a heads up....the G74 uses the new Sentelic touchpad and not the Synaptics. Current driver listed on the driver page is 9.1.3.5. If this one fails try and older version.
Was the driver cd not included with your purchase?

Yes. The G74 does not use a Synaptics touchpad. That's why the driver did not work.

downloading that huge driver pack right but yeah the Sentelic drivers wouldn't install for me but the Synaptics one did

kinda too bad since I liked the feature the Sentelic one had of disabling the touchpad while typing

or you know actually think Asus would be giving us correct drivers when it's directly from the support page that was linked to after entering my serial number

and I have a G74SX... so your point is what exactly?

this is my first Asus after coming over from Gateway and never had problems getting drivers from Gateway

the Asus drivers page didn't label the drivers as being any different so yeah I would download the most recent one and try to install it

    taken directly from Asus' page

now tell me why exactly I should have known I needed the 2011.04.11 update instead of the 2011.07.04 update?

so stop being an (and quadruple posting in order to increase your post count) if you aren't going to be helpful don't post

seems most people in here dont even look at there own spec's on there laptops anymore and just asume, lol, lol.

mmmmmmmm, well, mmmmmm, can you say " ddddaaaaaaaaaa".cuz the g73sx's have "Synaptics" touch pads,lol,lol,lol........

so comin sence would be that the "Synaptics" touch pad take a "Synaptics" driver to run correctly, lol. i could be wrong, maybe i am having a blonde moment,lol,lol...

well all companys are diff'. i used to use "gateway" loooong time ago, and i hated it,lol.

Sentelic drivers for a sentelic touch pad will not work on a " Synaptics" touch pad. 2 diff' pad configs.

thats like trying to take fords parts to work on a chevy,lol,lol.... by the way, lol, only real men drive chevy,lol,lol....

this is a G74SX BBK7 let me see what mine is.

sorry for being a butthead, just trying to help.

driver version: 15.2.16.1, driver date :3/4/2011, digital signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

so it would be the >>> Version V15.2.16.1
