Hi everyone I recently was given a G74S Asus gaming laptop as a christmass gift, however my fav game I am playing atm is having issues. I have included my DXDIAG but briefly my specs are :

    Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.20GHz
    12.0 GB Ram
    64 Bit Win 7 OS
    560M Nvidia Card

Everywhere I go I am getting incredibly bad Frame Rates, a friends desktop in the same house on the same network gets really good frame rates even in the Imperial Fleet Hub. And her desktop is 2 years older then the laptop.

I am at my wits end trying to work this out I have tried drivers, reinstalls, de-fragging etc but can not seem to sort this out, is my system a lemon? not as good as I was told?

    Thanks for any help.

hey i have the same laptop, and playing the same game!
My agent and I get any where from 25-40+ FPS while questing, and 18-35 FPS while in the crowded fleet.
Enable FPS in the game by pressing ctrl+shift+F, and monitor the green numbers that show up at the bottom left of the screen. can you tell me what FPS you're getting while questing?

    Hi,

If you are still using pre-installed version of Windows 7, i would really suggest you do a clean install and use latest drivers available today for all devices in the laptop(especially Wi-Fi and GeForce drivers).
There is just too many bloatware and outdated drivers on pre-installed Windows 7 the laptop comes with. You will need a Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit version to be able to use your key located on a label at the bottom side of the laptop.

There is a good thread over at ROG forum about latest drivers you might need: Drivers, Apps, and How-to's

PS: Forgot to mention that i have the G74SX-3DE version and the game runs pretty smooth all maxed except for shadows at a 1080p 120Hz screen resolution.(high shadows eat too much performance for my taste)

OK I am till using the original install of Win 7, I recently re-installed and re-downloaded the SWTOR in the Imperial Fleet with everything on low I am getting 1 to 6 FPS, outside of the Imperial Fleet I am getting 9 to 1 fps (everything on low with shadows off). So at this point would you all think I should do a fresh install of windows?

Im still new to this how do I work out what drivers I need for a clean install? For example I am unsure what drivers to use from the ROG forum, or should I use the drivers direct from the Asus webite specific for my laptop?

U will need these drivers for fresh install:

Intel Chipset INF Update Utility 9.2.0.1030
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology 10.8.0.1003
    ATK Package 1.0.0014
    KB Filter 1.003 x64
    Fresco Logic FL1000 USB 3.0 v3.5.24.0 driver
Sentelic Touchpad 9.1.7.7 [u will have to check if you really have sentelic or synaptics touchpad in device manager, but so far i have only seen sentelic used on g74sx laptops]
nVidia GeForce 560M, suggesting to use latest beta driver(worked best for me for SWTOR Graphics Driver - Verde 290.53 Driver - GeForce)
Realtek HD Audio ALC269 Drivers R2.67 Official
Realtek 8168 LAN Driver v7.049.xxx [same as with touchpad, check via device manager, but more that likely it's a realtek LAN]
    Atheros AR9002WB-1NG WiFi v9.2.1.470
    Atheros 3304 7.4.0.98 Bluetooth Drivers
    Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader

Install them in the same order from top to bottom and restart when asked by driver installers, then you should have no problems getting things to work properly.

Remeber to download all the drivers before u do the reinstall preferably and i suggest u do backup of these drivers to some flash drive or cd/dwd.
I would highly NOT recommend to use the drivers from the laptop driver CD (only in cases u cannot install/find latest drivers from web)

    BR,
    Cross

People here got a real performance boost from stock install ?

Cause when i got my laptop , i was like " First thing i do is clean install ! " , and after all , all games plays great so i never feel the need of a fresh install.

Now , with games like BF3 , not really the same story. People her got something good compared to old stock windows ?

On my M14x which has 555m and a similar i7 processor, I had to manually create an nvidia profile option for the swtor launcher and game.exe. Then I set both to force them to use the 555m gpu.

Before I did that, swtor was using the integrated intel graphics on the i7 CPU. Which runs better than I expected but was still only around 10-30fps depending on the area.

Since you have a 2nd gen i7 as well, I wonder if your integrated graphics also is running instead of the 560m.

The G74 doesn't have Optimus, it is using the GTX560m only.
