    Hey everyone,
I've had the G74S for about 2.5 years now, last summer I upgraded to an SSD as my main drive, Vertex 4. Everything worked fine but after a while my second HDD (the one that came with G74S) would sometimes stop loading on start up, usually solved it by rebooting. However a month ago, it stopped loading completely, and only loads when I open the laptop and disconnect and reconnect the wires to it.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it?
I'm on Windows 8 and if you need any clarifications please ask me.

    Thanks!

May be a bad connection. Try swapping the bays that the SSD and HDD are in and see if you continue to have the same problems.

Yes sounds like a thermal contraction/expansion break somewhere, you could also try putting the drive in another computer.

Had the same issue with my G73JH 2 years ago, with a Vertex 2 in the 2nd bay, only trouble, no show. I removed it eventually, and use only the 1st bay with a 500 Gb Momentus. IMO there´s a Sata/Mobo problem when using the 2nd drivebay, among ALL the other issues with the G-series.

Yes this is why checking each bay and the drives is a good idea as it would show what is going on.

It was a bad connection, I unplugged that ty little wire and plugged it back in and pushed it hard this time and it went in further, haven't had a problem since. Thanks everyone.

A nice simple fix, best case scenario, glad it's all working :)

No, I don't think so. I am using a SATA III SSD in my second bay and a SATA II in my first bay. I have had this G73jh since May 2010 and have NEVER had problems with the hdds or ssds in them. To be honest, the only problem I have had with my G73 was a bad screen, which I replaced myself. But I heard there was a bad lot of Hannstars in the early G73's. Otherwise, the power, battery, storage drives, RAM, GPU and CPU have all been operating flawlessly. All of the ports work great, and I use them all. Although I did learn that my Asus wireless mouse only works well on the right hand side USB ports. :)

The early vertex drives did love to just die to be fair.

I have a 256 GB Vertex 4 drive in my Asus MVE desktop. Hope it holds up. Been in there over 1 yr. now.

I have a Vertex 3 I've had for 2.5yrs and its ran like a champ after doing a firmware update. The original and 2 versions were a little iffy but your 4 should hold up great.

Agree, I had two RMA´s on a 60 and 120 Gb Vertex 2, now they are OK, and firmware updated, but I don´t use them in the G73JH, too much trouble with "no show".

I had 3 RMAs on a drive before going for a crucial one which worked flawlessly.

It's unfortunate for OCZ that they filed bankruptcy protection, however was fortunately acquired by Toshiba.

I think it could work out well, if OCZ can sort their act out then it's always good to have another competitor in the arena.
