Hello !
I was wondering a few things with external monitors , please share your experience !
I was fine with my 17" from G74SX , but i miss my old 22" from my old desktop. Then i was thinking about ... going up in size , maybe.
First : if you plug , for exemple , a huge external screen in 1920*1080 , it's the same resolution as the 17. Will i have the same FPS in game as it's the same reso ? Will the card get hotter cause it's bigger , or it will not change from original display ?
Then , the last screen i bought was several years ago. Now looking a bit, you can have a 27-28' screen for less than 300€Was watching for ex : HannsG HZ281 , looks ok , and price is cool ! Or even Iiyama PLB2712HDS : 266€
!! Do people here already tried this ? It seem that those big screen are often 1920*1200 , i already have low fps on some game , i'm sure it will get worse with those screen no ?
Well , share your screen experience ( and pics of your desktop !! )

I got the Asus PA238Q. Highly recommended. I actually can't look at my laptop display now... the colors and the angles are just terrible in comparison.
I tried playing some sc2 on the monitor, I don't think it changes the temps much (it's the same resolution but 23in) -
Thanks !
Anyone else got screen pluged to their laptop ?
I'm a bit worried about 27 inch with 1920*1080 , i'm sure you'll see much the details , may be uglier than a smaller screen ... any ideas ? -
I've got a Dell Studio monitor I like quite a bit (and also has audio pass through for my Blu Ray player, which turned out to be super useful), though I've since seen that HP has a 25" monitor with the same resolution! For me personally, I wouldn't want to go higher than 1920x1080 on a 24" screen (granted I get buy on my 17" screen with the same resolution, but it's more pleasant on my big one, and I have no doubt I could got to probably 30" at the same res).

Ok thanks !
I made a few test today with an old 17" 4/3 ( ugh , blaaa ) , and the resolution was lower ( 1280*1024 , like old days ) , the game was WAY more beautiful than a lower 16/9 resolution on the laptop screen , guess i may keep that solution when the computer will get old.
Now i have to find a way to try if 27" is not too big for gaming ( i use to work on a iMac 27 , it has a " Wahou " effect everyday to me , but i couldn't try any game at work x) ) -
Yeah, CRT monitors can actually display different resolutions, while LCD and plasma and stuff just has to scale. Depending on the quality of your monitor's scaler, you might get better results having your Geforce do it (in my case I HAVE to, since my last two Dell monitors don't seem to scale correctly at all).
In games at least I don't tend to mind scaling too much...annoys me more with text for some reason, but it's still not as good as doing the native resolution unfortunatly.
That's another reason I'm never crazy about running super high resolutions! Heck, 1280x1024 is IMO still very high resolution and looks fine...I'd have zero qualms using it for games if my performance was too low, save for the native resolution issue! -
My old 4/3 was an LCD
Thanks for info btw , i should try a CRT if i can find one ( but my glass desktop will probably not be ok)

Heres my setup... Nothing to fancy. This is a 32" 1080i lcd. The TV can handle higher resolution in progressive scan mode up till 1776X1000, before switching to 1080i. (Its an 6yrs old TV, give me a brake.) Behind the tv i have a USB Hub that plugs into my 2 external drives and my wireless keyboard and mouse.
After doing a repaste, (just for fun) the G73jh hasnt moved from that spot.
P.S. Dont mind my levitation device. I didnt feeling like moving it out of the way, then having to recalibrate it, just for a pic.Attached Files:

Nice =) Must be a pain to power on no ?
I also have a 32" LCD , but it's way to big for a desktop. I tried a blu ray once it was cool , never tried if for gaming , probably too big ( and weird to play in my bed :3 ) -
Thx Catzoo. The guy I bought my tv off of was using it at his desk as a monitor....
Actully, if you put the G73JH to sleep it'll wake up when you turn the wireless mouse on and move it around. found that out by accident when i put it to sleep and left the mouse on. I went to set it on the stand, and the log on screen popped up. -
Nice found , i have a wireless mouse , will remember this later when i'll get an external monitor

gotta love the mousepad !! xD Are both the laptops yours?
-
Yep
I use to have a powerfull desktop and my M11X for mobile gaming , but it was not enough to handle new games , so i decided to sell my desktop and buy the G74 with the money , and not selling my M11X wich is awesome for school with it's strong battery and it's gaming abilities for ... well , free time x)
The M11x is still used to play League of Legend or else with my GF -
I like to hook up my laptop to my HDTV for movies but the edges are cut off (can only a tiny part of the task bar)
-
Ever tried to change settings on your TV ? I search for a long time on the laptop on how to fix this , but there was a key on the remonte controller of the TV with " Size Ratio " or something like that , and when i came on " Scan " as a ratio , it was perfect !
