Greeting my soon-to-be new Asus friends!
I recently had an Alienware m17xr3 but swapped it in for an Asus G74SX laptop, due to several problems with the DELLienware.
I'm planning to reformat the asus when I get it and do a clean windows 7 install, the only problem I have is that I don't know what drivers to install in what order.
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Notebooks- ASUS G74SX
If you see here, these are the drivers.. There are probably 40 in total, surely I won't need more than 10-15? So could anyone give me a full list of what drivers I should be installing, and the order of driver installation?
Something that looks like this:

Although obviously not neccessarily as detailed.
It would be extremely appreciated! Feel free to create a new thread as a guide like this would most likely be usefull to everyone.
Thank you in advance!

There is a disk that comes with the G74 which has an automatic installation program for all the drivers and programs -- you just need to pick what you want to install.
You should install pretty much all the drivers and any programs you think you might want -- you can always uninstall them later...
Then you can look into updating the ATK (keyboard) driver and the video card driver (the current one from Nvidia won't work; see: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...7-cant-install-nvidia-driver-asus-g74sx.html). -
Both 275.33 and 280.19 drivers worked fine for me. The 275 driver required the modified inf, but no biggie..

The G74 just came out so most of the drivers shouldn't be too outdated. There aren't a lot, either (maybe 6 or so). There are things that you really need, like drivers for your internet connection to work, etc.
Edit: No, not from the net. But Asus does have an update utility... which is somewhat flaky, however. -

I have since then reverted back to the stock G74SX nvidia drivers until a stable version is out on their website. -
-
Since reverting back to the stock driver, the crashes have stopped entirely.
I'll most likely update back to 280.xx when it's out of beta and Firefox 6 is also out of beta. -
Speaking of crashing, anyone have Dragon Age 2? It seems to crash in DX11 mode (but not 9) very frequently with the 560M. I'm using the drivers released yesterday!
-
I play DA2 with no crashes. What did you install recently besides 280.26? What are you running in the background?
-
Must be something else... what settings do you have? I don't have anything running in the background except the usual Windows stuff and Malwarebytes resident anti-virus protection. I do use 4:3 res... that might be it, though unlikely?
The crash is definitely related to the driver. When it crashes, it boots me back to the desktop, but the game is still there and running (hanged -- if I click it to try to go back nothing happens). I then get a message from Windows saying that my graphics driver (or was it graphics card? I don't remember) malfunctioned (crashed? Forgot the exact wording..), but that Windows managed to restart the driver. -
I didn't experience any in-game crashes with DA2 in DX11 mode. I also ran Civ 5 in DX11 after installing the new drivers, so I am going to concur that there may be something else going on?
(this is on the Best Buy G74SX). -
playing in DX11 @ 1920x1080

Odd. I am using an SSD, btw...
Another issue here I've been having is that if the PC is put on sleep mode, re-activating it crashes Windows and the PC. IDK.. haven't fully updated the nearly 200 Windows 7 updates yet... -
Alright, got my laptop! Already having a problem xD
Anyone know exactly what drivers I need for wireless connections? Can't make any of them work.
Edit:
Fixed it!
Thanks for all the replies, they were helpful.
