    Hi,

I ordered my G74SX a few days ago and am just waiting for it to arrive.

One thing I'm unsure about is the best way to keep the battery in good condition.

The unit is going to primarily be a Desktop Replacement. It may very occasionally be unplugged and used on battery, but that would be substantially less than 1% of the time if I had to put a number on it.

I have heard in the past that if you're going to do that, then the best thing to do is to give the battery a storage charge level (about 60%), remove the battery, and run the unit directly off AC, ideally with a small UPS inline.

To that end, couple of quick questions :

    1) Is the procedure described above 'best practise' when a laptop is used as a desktop replacement?

    2) Is the power supply that comes with the G74SX capable of supplying all the power requirements of the laptop, with the battery removed? I have heard that some high end laptops use the battery as a 'buffer' even when plugged in, incase the power supply cannot meet the peak current demands of the laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help you are able to offer.

    Cheers!

    Welcome to the forum BlackRazor,
    1. Yes that is a good way to prolong the battery's life, I have read 40% but I guess 60 % would be fine. The UPS is a great idea.
I have also read store the battery in the refrigerator.

    2. The power brick supplies all the Watts you will need, the battery does not function as a buffer in the ASUS G series computers from what I have read. Some of the people who overclock have had success using a slightly higher rated (Wattage) power brick. (for instance the stock G73 is 150 W, some are successfully using 180 W). I do not OC so stock works fine for me.
