This is the same issue I talked about here http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...53792-asus-g74sx-suspend-causes-shutdown.html, but I did such a bad job explaining it there I thought I would try again.

On either windows or Ubuntu, closing the lid on my Asus occasionally causes an unexpected shutdown. This happens even when my battery is fully charged. It happens in windows when it's set to sleep on lid closing, and Ubuntu when set to hibernate.

From the windows logs, the item that precedes shutdown is

"The Application Experience service entered the stopped state."

The details of that event log include the following:

After the next boot I get the windows did not shut down correctly screen, and the event log shows.

"The previous system shutdown at 2:32:54 PM on ‎4/‎13/‎2012 was unexpected."

I'm convinced that this must be a hardware or BIOS issue, since it happens under both operating systems. As anyone else experienced this?

After this very busy semester ends I'm going to call and request an RMA I think.

Keyser-Soze, a fellow fan of the 'USUAL SUSPects' a great flick
Does this happen only on AC, only on battery or either power source?

It only happens if, whether it was plugged in or not when I initially close the lid, it was unplugged at some point before opening it back up. I can't recall a single time when it was plugged in the whole time the lid was closed and it shutdown.

It is a great movie. I don't think my forum persona really warrants such an awesome name.

A caveat to that previous post: I think I very rarely close the lid and open it without first unplugging it.
