I personally wouldn't recommend the high performance mod, maybe it's the fan? never occurred outside of this mode?

Playing around with some of the CPUs sleep states using ThrottleStop can sometimes get rid of irritating electrical noise at idle. Try toggling the C1E box or the various other C States if they are unlocked. The noise you are hearing is a common problem in many different laptops.

    Thanks for that answer.

So , if this is a " problem " , appart from the noise , is it dangerous ? what's exactly making that noise ?

I'm getting the same noise from my 920XM; the processor is making that strange noise. Not sure what the best C states are, but I have them unlocked - C0 seems the best but I can still just about hear something strange from my CPU.

At idle anything from C3 to max I can hear and it's annoying; anything lower I can just about ignore peacefully.... any tips for ultra quietness? When at load there are no noises.

Intel CPUs are designed to enter low power sleep states when they are lightly loaded. On some laptops, you can use ThrottleStop to block the CPU package from entering some of these low power states which seems to reduce the electrical noise for some users.

If you have a Core i processor, ThrottleStop should show a button above the Options... button that opens up the C State window.

I think the noise comes from cheap capacitors that many manufacturers use on their motherboards. This noise can happen on desktop motherboards too.

I wouldn't recommend this mod because I remember reading on the forums that it can actually decrease performance especially of the CPU, and you don't have a fine control over the overclocking process, and either way the increase is minimal and it used to cause problems to some people (I haven't tested this personally I remember reading on this very forums)

So what mod do you use ?

Do they have some kind of " power management " ?

You talk about overclocking , is there a way to overclock a 2630QM CPU ?
