I've been reading up on the forums and recently the XR1 came to my attention. After briefly replying to a post I wanted to know what exactly merited the difference of $350-400 from the A1 to the XR1.

As far as I could tell or anyone else has noticed, there are no major differences with the exception of:

    1) Nerfed HDD Space/Speed
    XR1 has a 5400RPM 640GB Drive while the A1 comes with 2x 7200RPM 750GB Drives

    2) XR1 has no Blu-Disc Reader

    3) No ASUS Accessories (Mouse + Backpack)

If anyone that is very familiar with the XR1 could tell me if any of the hardware is "gimped" like the BB version, I would be extremely appreciative. Thanks.

The "X" model versions are actually built on the same chassis with the same base CPU and GPU. They will be configured with less in order to bring the price down, so you have noted the main hardware differences. Generally, the X versions will only carry a 1 year warranty on them as opposed to a 2 year, so you lose that extra coverage. Other than that, they are not "gimping" the hardware.

Correct :) The XR1 will have the same GPU / CPU as the A1 model.
