I'm looking at buying the G74SX-BBK7 or the refurbished G73SWRF-BST6. The difference between them taking into account shipping and taxes and gift cards, is $162. Should I go for the refurb, or is the G74 better enough to warrant it? Any options are welcome, as I'm close to pulling the trigger.

The refurb will need to be shipped. The G74 I can pick up tomorrow in store. Which would be better?

Well the only big difference I can see is the fact that one has a 560m and the other 460m(G73). They are both 128 bit so both will perform a bit less than the 192 bit counterparts. But if you overclock the 460m you can get some decent performance. Honestly you could go either way. But you should probably go with the G74 because it does have a 560m(128) which will perform better than the 460m(128) when both are at stock speeds. The G74 would also be a bit more future proof.

Thanks for the input. Also a big thing going for the G74 are the year warranty vs 90 days for the refurb, and being able to pick it up tomorrow morning in person.

Yup, I would go with a G74. A solid choice. Just throw a cheap SSD in there and youll be good to go.

Since the G74 has two 500GB hd's, I won't need to buy a bracket for the SSD, right?

Yeah you wont need to. Mine came with 1 750 gig so I just fold paper towels up so that my SSD fits snugly. Its cheap but is free.
