G74SX-RH71 Shadows messing up in games

shadows are showing up pixelated and seem to be eating up performance. Would this be a driver problem? or a computer problem?
I uninstalled and reinstalled the NVIDIA Driver, with the newest one that i know of from the ASUS support site for May 2011, to no avail. 295.18

EDIT2: FEAR 2 has black words at the menu instead of gray because of the shadow issues, and is incredibly laggy because of this, when it used to run perfect before

I'm not sure what Nvidia driver you've installed from Asus' site, but you should be using the latest graphics drivers from Nvidia. The latest beta is Verde 290.53, and can be downloaded from here: Graphics Driver - Verde 290.53 Driver - GeForce

Not sure where you got that from. Unless the G74s use different, specialized drivers, 290.53 is the very latest - released Dec 21.

Update: it ran, didnt prompt for restart, still having shadow issues

Fo you only experience this issue in the games you've used as examples, or do all shadows look like this? Heaven benchmark, for instance. I'd give it a run on default settings, and post your FPS.

Also, are you overclocked? Do you have your performance on Maximum? Are your Nvidia Control settings all at default? By this I mean are you forcing any settings like AA or Vsync?

 

I dont think all shadows in every game, but when i turn off dynamic shadows in Mass Effect there are no shadows at all. Nvidia control panel is on Default all, except for V-sync which i try to set to off. Im not overclocked, and ill run the heaven benchmark and report back

Update: DX11 - ran at 14-15 FPS from the start, and 16-18 FPS at the boat part, where i noticed the shadow issues, only minor. there were no shadow issues at the beginning

 

Hmm I use 290.xx and that latest distributable on my RH71 too, so the fault probably doesnt lie in the drivers.. have you checked the ASUS G-series forum to see if anyone else has had this problem?

I would recommend you reinstall 290.53 using the Optional method, and selecting "Do a Clean Install"

If this doesn't work, then I'd like to RMA it as it may be a LVCD cable issue.
