Just got my ASUS G74SX-XA1 Republic of Gamers 17.3 from Amazon

I'm having a lot of performance issues with 20-30 fps in Starcraft2 ,TF2 and other games that should not have any issues running in high settings....

Tried turning graphic settings down and still sometimes getting choppy frame rates..

    ANy idea why?

I'm on 280.26 video driver...installed all updates for Win 7 Home and rest really didn't touch.

    please help.

When I first got my g74 I had the same experience until I realized my Power profile was set to 'quiet office mode'. Try and clicking the ROG key beside your power button and make sure you are set to 'High Performance mode'.

    Something to try anyway...

choppy frames could be from the game accessing the HDD.

    Solution:

    1) Try using MS ACHI driver
    2) Get faster HDDs or SSD upgrades
    3) Update firmware on your existing HDDs (if available)

    What Chasity said.

I am also using the latest NVIDIA (beta) driver.
285.62 Go to Drivers - GeForce at the bottom of the page select Beta / Legacy Drivers and enter your 560m card info. Presto!

Also there is a new version of Asus Power4Gear Software. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P4GHybrid

I have Crucial M4 128GB SSD for my main drive and it is night and day over the 750GB that my A1 came with.
