Hello,
I have installed the latest drivers 301.42 for my G74sx over the 301.24. When I rebooted my system, and notebook monitor was black and I could see my mouse pointer flicker here and there. I used the monitor switch key to make sure it was not pointing on an external device but still nothing.
I decided to plug in my HDMI cable to my TV and it showed up properly. In the settings, I realized that the external monitor was set to Primary and my notebook monitor to secondary. I fixed everything and was happy with the latest driver. I shut down the system, brought the laptop with me in class, and black screen came back. Since I didnt have my TV to fix it back, I had to go safe mode, uninstall 301.42, use driversweeper and installed 301.24.
Anyone else has this problem? or have any suggestions?
Using Windows 7 64 Home Premium, clean install.
Thanks for any input...

You could report your "black screen" issue on the NVIDIA Official Feedback Thread for 301.42 ( Official WHQL NVIDIA 301.42 Display Driver Feedback Thread For NVIDIA Geforce Desktop/Notebook/ION GPUs Released - NVIDIA Forums). @BeefSkull reports he got a black screen on 301.42 installation and it never returned to Windows, not even on reboot.
In the meantime, you'll probably have to remain on your last stable driver version until NVIDIA releases a new version for you to try.
I find the issue interesting, since I currently run 295.73 and have my laptop connected to an HDTV, which is configured as an extended desktop with the laptop display configured as the main display. I find the Windows Desktop is always displayed on the laptop display (as expected), but the ASUS splash screen, BIOS, and Express Gate Cloud are always displayed on the HDTV (behavior I did not expect).
I always wondered if some of the "black screen on startup" issues were due to video being directed to HDMI or VGA instead of the laptop display - even if an external monitor is not connected.
